'Family Guy' reaches out to Colorado teen injured in school shooting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - It's been almost 5 weeks since 14 year old Matt Thieu was shot at Deer Creek Middle School. You may have seen our reports on Matt's recovery from a bullet in the chest.

But what you might not know is that Matt is a huge fan of the hit fox show, Family Guy. We didn't know until earlier this week.

And we decided to do something to brighten Matt's day. FOX31 contacted the staff of the Family Guy and told them Thieu's story. They responded.

They sent an authentic show script, signed by the show's star, Seth MacFarlane, a t-shirt, marker board, and beach towel with Family Guy characters.

Sunday night, we surprised Thieu with the gifts. His reaction was typical for Matt, laid back. But to see even something close to a smile on his face shows he's come a long way. At the same time, he0 could use a good laugh and a nice surprise.
