Proof positive that dreams really can come true in Hollywood, the producers of "If I Can Dream," the 24-7 "post-reality" series that's the brainchild of "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller, have offered a sixth spot on the show's cast -- and in its multi-million dollar mansion -- to Top 24 reject Alex Lambert! He's moving in on Thursday with a new look and -- gasp -- a haircut!
It seems the outpouring of support for this Season 9 fan favorite, whose "Idol" run was cut short when he got eliminated on the March 11 Top 16 episode, piqued the producers' interest, particularly when some 19,000 people signed a petition to "Bring Alex Lambert BACK on 'American Idol.'" To that end, fans can thank organizer Jessica Bongiorno, who wrote the 1,000-word petition text and played no small part in his "If I Can Dream Campaign." The next few months should be a whirlwind of activity for the aspiring singer as he gets a crash course in the music industry, meeting with songwriters, coaches and the media. At the same time, the current "Dream" cast will have another roommate The details of his arrival (like how Alex is getting around the three-month contract which ostensibly sequesters all "Idol" Top 24 contestants) have yet to be revealed, and may even play out online for all to see. But like most objects in the 'Dream' house -- i.e. the massive Elvis Presley photograph in the living room (Elvis' image, CKX, 19's parent company, owns, and "If I Can Dream" is a seminal Elvis song) -- this is perhaps the best example of synergy at work: giving one talented kid a second chance at stardom. And isn't that what the show is all about? We've said it before and we'll say it again: welcome to the future, people. And Alex, welcome back to L.A. We'll be seeing you soon! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/amer...s-mullet-.html |
