I know they're illegal in some cities and states. My nephew owned one. At first I was kind of creeped out, but after a while, I realized how cute and affectionate they can be.

I have two friends who have them. And they are very cute BUT unfortunately many like to nip so you have to be careful handling them. I was too squeemish to ever handle any of my friends' ferrets, but always enjoyed looking at them. BTW they seem to get along great with other pets LOL one of my friends cats would roll around with the ferrets on the floor. As a plus, ferrets are good mousers. On the down side, you have to be VERY CAREFUL with ferrets as they like to get into EVERYTHING, which means behind stoves any opening, inside sofa beds...so owners have to FERRET PROOF their living space. And btw one very cheap toy for the cute little guys and gals is an open empty paper bag...to their mind its a tree house LOL.

I'm strictly a dog/cat/fish person.
A couple weeks ago, I saw a TV program (don't remember the name - uggh!) about a woman whose face had been partially eaten off by a ferret when she was a baby. The ferret climbed into her crib and attacked her while the parents were someplace (?) else. The woman had a lot of surgery, but she still needed more, especially on her nose. I know that her parents should have been more responsible, but after seeing how hard life had been for that woman, I wouldn't feel comfortable having one in my house. |

Ferrets are cute little animals, but like Rich said, they're into everything. They also have a musk, or odor to them that isn't always pleasant.

You have to be especially careful when you have a pet with a baby - the pet can get jealous...and ferrets are not for everyone. They are high-maintenance for alot of reasons... I'm too lazy to have an exotic pet - give me a cat with a sweet disposition ANY DAY!! |

Ever see a ferret? When i read that thread title i thought that sounds like the creepiest opening line ever. As in "Hey Baby ever see a ferret?"

A couple pf years ago my husband and I were walking through our campground and we saw a ferret come running out of nowhere. It pounced on a field mouse. The mouse let out a scream. It was creepy! We assumed that the ferret was a pet that either got loose or was abandoned because I doubt that there are any wild ferrets in northern Michigan. But I am sure that it survived. It's hunting and catching abilities were there! It didn't go hungry.
