I'm not sure if this s/b in Music or Games since it qualifies as both but it does seem more music oriented so I thought I'd start here.
Here's how the game goes: I'll give clues/background about the #1 and my source will be U.S. Billboard Pop Chart. If someone is posting from outside U.S. you can use an official chart from your country - but if Billboard does track for your country that might be nice to use. A very savvy poster might be able to guess the song from the clues, but if you google some/all of the clues it should lead you to the song. I thought this might be fun because there are some #1 songs I've really liked, but never knew the whole background on them. I'm hoping this game/thread will turn out to be a good one for learning some new and interesting trivia about some successful songs. Here's the first clue: They started out as the Chateaus in Bridgeport, CT. They had no commercial success and disbanded. Some years later one band member was a producer for a record company and recruited some of his former bandmembers to sing. He cut four songs but the record company wanted to use their throw-away B side for the release. The group was so incensed, and thought so little of the song that they had the record company (Mercury)come up with a fictitious name for the band. To everyone's surprise when a DJ played the song he was flooded with requests. This snowballed and ultimately the song reached #1 for 2 weeks. What was the song and what was the name of the fictitious group? The correct poster makes up the next clues for their #1 |
