Default As I'm going through Season 4 on DVD...

One thing I've discovered the series as a whole--boy, Keith was a complete and total jerk most of the run!! (Cue the David Cassidy didn't have to act the part jokes). Chris and Tracy never developed as characters--the writers never bothered to ever give them an episode about their problems (save the first season running away from home) and that Ricky--way more annoying than Cousin Oliver ever was on the Brady Bunch!

David has always attributed to the demise of the show based on the fact that he wasn't coming back.
The show suffered from poor writing the last couple of years and then it went against "All in the Family" the last year.

Acting wise you would think that David would have no where to go but up because Keith was not a stretch.

On the other hand, David perpetuates the rumor that his father Jack was bitter about turning down the Ted Baxter role. This is not true.

Ted Knight didn't want the Ted Baxter role and he was begging to be taking out of his contract.

Jack comedy was kind of hammy but his strength was drama.
In the 70's he got and Emmy nomination for the Andersonville Trial and Acclaim for villian role in Columbo.

IT is actually David who got stuck being known as a hammy, not too bright, egotistical character.

I enjoyed season 3 a lot--got quite a few fave episodes in it, but so far, season 4 is really suffering from "last season syndrome". Having Ricky sing in every episode so far that I've watched--save for the cruise ship episode (a decent entry), is quite aggravating. He actually wrote these songs, so he is getting royalties (in a small way) from the DVD sales. In any case, I can see why the ratings really nosedived!

I am starting to study about why Monkee fans don't like David Cassidy.
The Monkees' TV show only lasted for 2 years.
Their TV show didn't make it for the 3rd season because the group thought a lot of the routines would get stale.
David Cassidy goes on to claim how the Patridge Family was on the air longer even though it was evident that they should have pulled the plug earlier.

David continues his propaganda to this day that the show was cancelled because he wasn't coming back. Then he scews statistics about record sales, concert attendances and so forth.

I give the Monkees credit for pulling the plug.
I don't know why more fans don't speak up about the real reason the PF show was cancelled.

YES!

I think this is what they call "Jumping the Shark".

I just think that the cast members and the audience knew the show was over going into that 4th season.

Somehow when all those fake Cassidy/Partridge Family docu-dramas started to appear in the 80's and 90's , they make it seems like the show was cancelled because DAvid didn't want to do it.

The Monkees knew when to quit.
Most people looking at the bad 4th season PF knows that the show had run past its course.

Does anyone else remember that Pizza Hut ad that Ringo Starr did years ago with Peter, Davy and Micky? I loved it!! I know that Michael Nesmith has always been somewhat ambivalent about The Monkees (he was a respected musician even before the show), but to my knowledge he's NEVER treated fans the way David Cassidy has.

I have good news for you Jude. Rickey only appeared in 10 episodes so you have a lot of "Rickey Free" episodes coming up!

There are other questions. Why hasn't Tracy learned how to play the tambourine after 4 years.

Tracy and Chris.

It's remarkable not because the series should have included them (it's hard to determine if either performer has any talent because they never do anything), but because their determined absence from making even the smallest contribution to the series is almost embarrassing.
