The answer may already be on this board, but I'll ask anyway. Nick at Nite's been running a promo asking what the P stands for in Alex P. Keaton. The promo says we don't know, but do we? Are we ever told Alex's middle name?

The short answer is: No, the P doesn't really stand for anything. It was never revealed in any episode, so officially it doesn't stand for anything. Most likely, the producers never decided on a middle name.

The French version of Family Ties says it's "Alex Paul Keaton". I don't know if this is true or false. Maybe they asked GDGoldberg and he told them it was "Paul"

Those ads on Nick@Nite are really hilarious!
![]() I think they gave him the intial P because it gave him more of Republican sounding name than simply plain ol' Alex Keaton |

Either way, if they are using Paul as the middle name, I would guess that the translators in France (or whatever country you're referring to) has made that up. First of all, I really don't think the producers ever decided on a middle name. And secondly, I would be very surprised if any translating or dubbing company would be in contact with a show's Executive Producer for anything. /Daniel Hofverberg Webmaster, Family Ties Home Page http://www.familyties.f2s.com |

What i mean by "french version" is a version dubbed in french. But i think you're right, they invented the "Paul" to sort of translate the "P." because in France, a single letter in the middle of a name doesn't exist.

How annoying with shows dubbed into French! Here in Sweden, most shows and movies are always aired in their original version with subtitles, and pretty much only cartoons are dubbed.
Anyway, I have had some contact with dubbing companies here in Sweden and I have never heard that any of them has been in contact with any producer or production company for shows - So I think we can safely assume that this middle name is made up by the French dubbing company. |
