George Lopez sues Paramount

Comedian, actor and talk show host George Lopez has sued Paramount for more than $700,000 in money he says is owed from a comedy concert entitled "Why You Crying."


The concert, which premiered on Showtime in 2004, has since become a hit in the home entertainment market, generating approximately $5 million in gross receipts. In his complaint, Lopez says he signed a 10-year agreement giving him 75% of those profits after a distribution fee and permissible deductible costs.


Lopez now disputes the deductions that Paramount has taken on the property. The two sides have been battling for some time over audits and documentations, but Lopez says the last audit in 2008 revealed $800,000 in unsupported deductions.


Lopez demands actual and compensatory damages, an accounting, and other legal costs.
