Hey, I just found this video on youtube "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LXRh0h1IO4&feature=related". It's of Reba McEntire's fantasy of "I Love Lucy". I just got to wondering.
What do you think if would be like if they did a "I Love Lucy" remake and they cast Reba McEntire as Lucy Ricardo? They would have to find some other people to play Ricky, Fred and Ethel. What do you think it would be like if Reba played Lucy and she tried some of her stunts like Lucille Ball did. Reba would great in her show "Reba" and she did use some Lucy Ricardo stuff in her Reba show. I bet she would be funny as Lucy Ricardo. Can you imagion Reba McEntire drinking that Vitameatavegamin or working that Cavayer belt think in the candy factory episode? It the end of that movie I post a link to she faked cried almost exactly the way Lucille Ball did. They could reuse some of the storylines from the original "I love Lucy" like the Job Switching episode or the Lucy Does A TV Commercial Episode. Please let me know your ideas. Thanks. |

Lucille Ball was one of a kind and I would never want to see I Love Lucy remade with another actress. That being said I like Reba and enjoyed her sitcom. But I can't see Lucy with a southern accent like Reba's!

All one has to do is look at the movie version of The Honeymooners to see what happens when you take a classic TV show with actors who can't be replaced, and modernize it. If a movie version of ILL was made, I predict it would be the biggest bomb to come out of Hollywood ... ever. Even people who are not fans of Lucille Ball would have to agree that there is only one person who could play Lucy Ricardo, and that would be Lucille.

I admire Reba, and enjoyed her show when it was on...but there was only one Lucille Ball.
It's crazy for anyone in Hollywood to think that they could duplicate the magic that went into "I Love Lucy". I don't think anyone would ever have the guts to try it. Reba is great, but just put her in her own show, don't try to cast her as a one-of-a-kind character like Lucy. Reba is capable of being just as funny as anyone, but just let her be Reba and don't try to make her into something that she isn't. There was more to I Love Lucy than just Ball. All 4 actors went into making that show what it was. I wouldn't put most things past Hollywood, but this, I don't think they would dare try. Of course, Hollywood did try to make "Casablanca" into a TV Series (twice, in the 50s and sometime during the 80s I think). re: the video itself - everyone except Reba was terrible. She did look good as Lucy though. Of course, it's one thing to do a 3 minute satire on something...it's quite another to make a full blown TV series out of it. |

All I can say is that it would NEVER work! Nothing against Reba. I have never seen her show so I don't have an opinion on her acting abiltites, all I know is that NO ONE can even come close to impersonating ANY character Lucy has ever done.....let alone Lucy Ricardo. IMO, this is why the classics are so special, the actors themselves are irreplacable and so are the times! That is why I cringe when they come out with these movies that they attempt to recreate out of one of the classics. For example, that hideous Leave It To Beaver movie....it was awful! They couldn't even show it in the correct era! Beaver with a computer? PLEASE! The Honeymooners....well, we won't even discuss that! I think when they try to recreate a classic, it's almost an insult to the original because the way they write them and even some of the actors they get for the parts are proof that they are in it only for the money, not for the love and respect for the show or classic actors.

I agree, no one can replace the original "I love Lucy" characters that we have known and loved for 60 years, but it would be great to see what they can do if they did an up-to-date story. If these Hollywood producers really want to make this work (and no doubt, they are probably remaking this show even as we speak) they would have to sit down and watch the entire original series BACK AND FORTH to get the spirit, the inspiration and the exprience they need to create a good story. So far, I have dreamcasted Alyson Hannigan as Lucy Ricardo and David Fumero (he's Cuban in real life as well) as Ricky Ricardo. I wonder how "I Love Lucy" would work in today's world. Well, go ahead and shoot me, but I will go on record to say that I'm in for a remake as a romantic comedy film or something. BUT I ONLY ASK THAT HOLLYWOOD REALLY TAKE THE TIME AND DO IT RIGHT! |
