I watched Designing Women because it dealt with issues and was funny--much like All In The Family. This could also go for The Golden Girls and Murphy Brown

I think Cheers was a very funny show, and I also enjoyed Mad About You and Designing Women. When it comes down to it, most sitcoms are "just talking." There was not really an unusual absence of action in these, I don't think.
For example, on Mad About You, the characters are locked in a bathroom in one episode and try to break out. That's similar to countless past "locked" situations in other shows. On Cheers, Rebecca accidentally causes a fire in the bar. That's reminiscent of the Arnold's fire on Happy Days. I have to disagree that these shows are lacking in some way. Remember when Frasier was "running with scissors" on Cheers? That's more action than most shows! LOL |

I just don't care for shows stylized like Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, The Office, 30 Rock and Parks & Rec.
I especially hate the "score" they add to Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, it's loud and distracting, it takes away from any investment I'd have in the characters and dialogue. Even though most of these shows don't have audience laughter, they instead have terrible soundtracks with these quirky faux-scores or Pop and Indie music that make the shows less funny to me. These soundtracks aren't even good ones that convey emotions the way that film scores do, they're just loud and crappy. I'm sorry, I'll always perfer traditional soundtrackless theatrical laughy-people sitcoms over soundtrack-saturated filmlike one camera coms. |

^ From your list, I like some of them, one I have never seen, and the rest I either don't care for or am indifferent. As someone else said, not everyone has the same likes or tastes.

But I agree on Tim and Eric. That thing is an abomination to me. I am open minded to just about any type of comedy but all I see when I watch it is a bunch of 2nd grade level stream of consciousness stuff that never even makes me crack a smile. |

Same here. I can take all kinds of humor and I am not a prude by any means, but Tim and Eric is not only in really bad taste, but idiotic. My friends love this show and I have had the misfortune to see this crap more than I would like to. No offense to the Tim and Eric fans here. |
