Robert Reed had naturally curly hair. I'm with those who don't believe it was permed. It was just much shorter in the early seasons. Reed mentioned that his hair's curly nature required taming earlier on.

Everyone just assumes Reed got a perm. I don't believe that's the case, he just had longer hair. He tends to get lumped in with Barry Williams and Chris Knight, both of whom I believe did get perms. Anyway, that's my comment.

I heard/read that when the Bradys went to Hawaii, it was so muggy and humid out that it made the guys' hair frizz out. And I guess they sort of kept the style.
