Hey, I'm currently watching the Reba DVDs and got to wondering. Has anybody noticed some similarities in some of the episodes from stuff that happen in the I Love Lucy episodes?
For instence the episode "The Wall" in season 2 Reba is worried that Elizabeth won't be able to sleep without her blanket because she was staying over at Van's parents for the night. So, Reba and Barbara Jean try to climb a wall to return it to her. I think Lucy and Ethel did the same thing in the I Love Lucy episode "The Tour" when Lucy was trying to get a grape fruit off somones tree (Can't think of his name). So, she to climbs over the wall like Reba but, Lucy falls over the other side and gets stuck. Also, in a couple first season episodes I notice Reba and Cheyanne do the spider face thing that Lucy used to do. I can't think of what episodes they where but, it sounded similer. Also, a few times I think Reba did some of the crying things that Lucy used to do. It wasn't a full out waaa but, Reba did do her share of crying on the show and I think Chayanne did to in one episode. Did they use I Love Lucy to get ideas for storylines or scenes in the show? I know Lucille Ball and Reba are both redheads. Did anybody else ever notice anymore similarities between Reba and I Love Lucy? Please let me know. Thanks. |

Again, honey I replied to the I Love Lucy remake post and said that I never watched Reba's show so I wouldn't have an opinion either way, but I did want to answer your questions because I know how frustrating it can be when you don't get any responses.
The episode where Lucy climbs the wall is the home of Richard Widmark. I'm not sure you know this little bit of history, but that home was actually Lucy and Desi's real home. When Lucy and Ethel are walking up to it, they show the front. I always thought that was neat. To answer your other question. I can't say for sure that Reba's show took any ideas from ILL, however I wouldn't be surprised because there's been evidence in the past where it was pretty clear one show took a storyline or an idea from another show. To give you an example....In an episode of Leave It To Beaver, there was an episode called, "Richard's Laundry" and he and Beaver of course lose the laundry money on the way to the cleaners to do Richard's family's laundry so they end up doing it at the Cleaver's. Beaver and Richard pour a whole box of soap in the machine and flood it, sending water and suds through the laundry room into the kitchen. Years later on the Brady bunch, Bobby does the same thing except that it was just him and he was caught. I would say it's safe to say that Brady Bunch took a page from LITB. I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. I hope this helps! |

I'm not a big Reba fan, but I know that she did pose as Lucille Ball on the cover of TV Guide (before they switched formats) and she included a parody called, "I Love Flucy" in a TV Special she did in the 90s.
