The Green Bay Packers to Unveil New Uniforms on Friday - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Green Bay Packers have reached deep into their past to add an alternate color scheme to their traditional green-and-gold uniform repertoire.

Mark Murphy, the Packers' president and CEO, said Tuesday the Packers are joining the list of NFL teams that will have a third uniform to use occasionally over the next few seasons. But their new uniform actually will be an old one, similar to what they wore in their first decade in the NFL.

"To give our fans something they can embrace and to really personify and celebrate the history," Murphy said Tuesday. "To have obviously the third jersey, but it will be the whole uniform, it will be a re-creation of — it really looks good, I'm excited for our fans, and the other thing for our players, I think the players will really like this."

The NFL allows teams a third uniform, following a year-long approval process, that they can use up to three times a season — twice at home and once on the road — for a five-year period. The Packers will have only a home version of the new uniform, and Murphy said they probably will use it only once this season against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

"We'll see how it goes this year," Murphy said, "but I anticipate over the next couple of years you'll see it."

Murphy would not describe the uniform except to say it's from the franchise's first decade — the Packers started playing in 1919 and joined the NFL in 1921. The team will unveil it Friday, with several players modeling it during Fan Fest's kickoff, which begins at 4 p.m. at the Lambeau Field Atrium.

They're not getting rid of the old unis.

They're just adding a new third alternate one (like the Bears' orange jerseys or the Giants' alternate red jerseys or the Eagles' black uni) that'll be used for occasionally special games.

Plus, it'll be an old Packer uni from the past- it's not like they're changing the colors or anything.

They are probably still going to use the current uniforms the new uniforms will probaly just be an alternative or throwback that gets used a few times a year. The Broncos and Bears have alternative orange jerseys and the Ravens and Eagles have alternative black jerseys they use.

There is only one reason NFL teams adopt a third uniform. It gives them more merchandise to sell! It's all about the Benjamins!!
