This Just In: Spartacus delayed as star Andy Whitfield undergoes cancer treatment
by Michael Ausiello Mar 9, 2010 Sad news: Andy Whitfield, who’s currently starring in the Starz drama Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and will begin treatment immediately in New Zealand. As a result, production on the second season of Spartacus — which was scheduled to get underway later this month — has been delayed. Whitfield’s cancer was detected early and his prognosis is good. “I’m receiving excellent care, and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me,” said Whitfield in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy,” said Starz president Chris Albrecht. “His health, of course, is our primary concern. He has our complete support during this difficult time.” Spartacus’ first season concludes April 16. http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/03/...ld-has-cancer/ |

"Spartacus" Andy Whitfield beats cancer and is ready to film season two, report says
Tuesday, June 08, 2010 Posted by Corinne Heller Andy Whitfield, star of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", is cancer-free and is "raring to go" as he and the actors of the Starz adult-oriented gladiator series prepare to film the second season, Deadline.com reports. Lesley-Ann Brandt, who plays the slave Naevia, told OnTheRedCarpet.com in May that Whitfield was doing "great" and had "just about finished his treatment." The actor was diagnosed with treatable Stage 1 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in March and then began treatment, while production on the second season of the series was put on hold. Last month, Whitfield was told he had beaten the disease, Deadline said. "After the initial shock – I was a healthy young man and had no idea that this could happen -- it was frustrating that the first season was ending on such a high note and we could’ve been rolling into season 2," the website quoted Whitfield as saying in a telephone interview from New Zealand, where the show is filmed. He has since had "time to heal, figure things out and spend time with my family," he said. Production is set to soon resume on the second season, while Whitfield is also set to star in two episodes of a six-episode prequel to "Spartacus", which is set to air early next year and stars the show's villains, the married rulers Batiatus and Lucretia, played by Lucy Lawless and John Hannah. http://www.ontheredcarpet.com/2010/0...port-says.html |
