CLEVELAND - A teacher in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District claims that she was assaulted by a third grade student.

The attack allegedly happened at Fullerton Elementary School in Cleveland on Monday.

Teacher Juliana Delacruz says she was trying to teach a history lesson when one of her students started beating on his desk and being disruptive.

Delacruz says she walked over to the desk to settle the student down and the third-grader punched her in the chest.

"He stood up, double-fist, and he punched me right here in the chest...and I was shaken up. I didn't say a thing. Then, he pushed me real hard and good. There was a sink and that's how I lost my balance," said Delacruz.

The student was given an immediate 10-day suspension.

The teacher was not seriously injured and returned to class that same day.

Parents say the incident is disturbing. Linda Taylor said, "That's bad, that's out of control, something should be done."

"I just think more parents need to spend more time with their kids, that's why they act like that," said Veronica Vidal.

A spokesman for Cleveland Public Schools says the incident is being taken seriously and is under investigation.

Yeah the parents should be held responsible. What made this kid go off like that???

Parent spend more time with your children and dont just hand them video games, Ipods, etc. and turn them loose.

Incidents like this make think its time to bring back corporal punishment to schools. I know it scared me straight back in the day!!

^ Exactly. I remember my first years of elementary school. My 1st grade teacher was someone you just did NOT talk back to or disrespect in any way, if you knew what was good for you. I don't want to imagine what some of these schools are like in terms of teacher respect now.

i think most shcool goingdown hill epscially when they took prayer out of shcool. i'm not sure if they still pray aroundthe flag pool. i rember going to school whloe bunch of people woud pray aroudn the flag pool . i rember they use to have quite time you could pray . now they got kids carrying guns in shcool. you can't wear t-shirt with pictuers..

No, they should still keep praying out of school. Not everyone shares the same religion, and not everyone is religious. We didn't pray in school and we still didn't have kids bringing guns to school or hitting/pushing teachers. The problem is that a lot of kids don't respect authority figures anymore, and some parents aren't doing their job as parents.

Threatening corporal punishment does NO good. I know kids who laugh off everything. NOTHING fazes kids nowadays

I'm not suggesting they threaten corporal punishment. I'm suggesting they actually implement it. I suspect that will make a difference.

You got to start with the parents first for kids like this. My opinion only, but I think parents are way too soft on their kids these days.

In my house if I got out of line, I got my ass whooped, and believe me I learned.
