I surprised that neither of these animated opening sequences were ever turned into a Saturday morning cartoon. Or a prime time cartoon for that matter.

there was a saturday morning "IDOJ" cartoon in the 70s, but it had a completly different premise (no Tony Nelson, Roger, Dr. Bellows, etc.) and was called just "JEANNIE".
I don't know if it was done by the same company that did the "IDOJ" opening, though. (DePATTIE-FRELENG, who also did the pink panther cartoons in the 60s) But I don't think so. I think it was done by Hanna-Barbera (who; ironiclly did the "BEWITCHED" opening) |

Yes, Hanna-Barbera produced Jeannie, a Saturday morning cartoon
that featured, among the voice cast, Joe Besser and a pre-"Star Wars" Mark Hamill. Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and Darrin (Dick York) also guested on an episode of Hanna-Barbera's prime-time Flintstones series. |

...produced the animated title for "BEWITCHED" (and used the same model sheets when "Sam" and "Darrin" guest-starred on that October 1965
"FLINTSTONES" episode, because Screen Gems/Columbia distributed both at the time). DePatie-Freleng produced both black and white/color versions of the animated "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" title [featuring the work of Gerry Chiniquy, Friz Freleng's key animator at his studio]. However, Hanna-Barbera produced the 1973-74 animated version of "JEANNIE" (by arrangement with Columbia), featuring new characters, and Jeannie as a teenager [the better to "fit in" with CBS' other Saturday morning cartoons featuring "Archie" and "Scooby Doo"]. However, there was one attempt by Hanna-Barbera (and Screen Gems/Columbia) to convert "Tabitha" and "Adam" into a Saturday morning cartoon- they appeared, as teenagers, in an "ABC SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE", "Tabitha & Adam and the Clown Family", in November 1972. It doubled as a pilot for a potential series featuring their own adventures. However, ABC passed on the idea.

Hanna-Barbera also did the animated opening for "I LOVE LUCY". However, they couldn't tell anyone at first since in 1951, animators working in TV were looked down upon.

There was an older fan-fiction than the one mentioned in the original post, about Samantha meeting Jeannie. Its author was Carrie, AKA "Carpet", who ran I Dream of Jeannie: The Web Page for about ten years. Carrie's site went down in 2006 - we found out later that Carrie had lost her life to breast cancer. (There's another one for your pink ribbon, catlover.)
The story is now in two places. Carrie had uploaded it to fanfiction.net in the Jeannie section, where it still resides. We were also able to resurrect it, almost in its original form, for our site. (Carrie had been very helpful to us when we started Jeannie Sisters on Geocities back in April 2004.) Unfortunately, though, Carrie never finished it. Donna |
