I totally agree. The last season was really subpar. Even if Roger didn't live at home anymore, she still should have been on.

well said, even though her part was small, she added heart to the show, something that Shirley Hemphill couldn't replace.

I will agree that the show had fallen apart by the third season. However, I do not know if this was because of the absense of Mable. However, I think that episodes like the one in which Dwain went to work as a peanut salesman were cries of desperation! I also think that the addition of little Earl and his crush on Dee was a sub-plot that went nowhere.

I think that Bernie Orenstein said it best on TVOne's Unsung Hollywood episode on WH that Mable King was the moral center of the show.
