I personally think that just about all of the finales out there are overrated. It just always seems like the writers try so hard to make it stand out from the rest of the episodes that they end up writing something completely either corny or ridiculous which makes sitting through them very hard.
The one that I think is most overrated is Goodbye, Farewell and Amen. I loved the show MASH, but the finale is just way too long and way to focused on how these people will have a hard time after the war. This show started out as funny and somehow made its way to a dramatic preach fest. IMO, I think they should have done the finale like they did the one episode at the end of the first season where there's a cease fire. LOL, and maybe just a little bit shorter. Anyways, which series finales do you think are overrated? |

I agree about the MASH finale. I think the time capsule episode would have made a much nicer finale.

My Favorite finale was Newhart
If I am not mistaken I believe that is the only finale I have ever seen

The Seinfeld and Roseanne finales were horrible. Both of them really let the fans down in terms of laughs and closure. The Roseanne one didn't even make any sense and just threw out all past continuity in favor of some bizarre shock value ending.
I also wasn't that thrilled with the X-Files finale. Loved the show for the first seven years or so, but that last episode, even with Mulder back, made little sense and tried to tie up too many loose ends in a two hour block. |

The finale for The Wonder Years was awful. (After all, Bill Clinton just took office! Just kidding.) Let's see, Kevin lost his car gambling and he had a fight with Winnie. The people at ABC could have at least had it run one more season so that we could see the kids graduate from high school. The finale was rushed; I heard that ABC canceled it at the last minute (while the world was focused on Cheers, an overrated show if you ask me!)
. To me that was like a death in the family. I was in college at the time; no wonder (no pun intended) I had my lowest ever GPA the following semester! It bothers me that fans of this show say that this is their favorite episode--did those so-called fans even watch the show???Oh, and I didn't like the finale for Home Improvement, either. I remember the producer for the show-within-the-show Tool Time wanted to make it a lot like that pukefest Jerry Springer, claiming the ratings would skyrocket! They could have just concentrated on that move to Bloomington, Indiana.

The other thing that kinda bothered me was having BJ leave without telling Hawkeye. They had already done the same thing with Trapper leaving, and to tell you the truth, I really didn't see much of a difference in reactions. He was mad both times. The only true differences were that he was getting over going insane and that BJ returned. I know that a lot of people did like it, but, unlike me they had the attention span to handle it, lol. I just personally think that they could have done so much better with it. Instead of what they did, I think that they should have had the celebrating like they did before, but also show them go off and go through how they were scarred afterwards. |

I agree about both the Roseanne and Seinfeld endings. Roseanne just seemed to get goofy in the last season, and I guess the writers were looking for a way to fix that by explaining that it was all a story. I really can't say anything about Seinfeld though. I didn't really like it, but it is hard to end a show about nothing, and at least they didn't go through the usual this one's moving this one's married and this one had a kid type story line. Some shows, that whole storyline thing does work, but it does get redundant after a while. |

I liked the M*A*S*H finale, it was better than Roseanne's or Seinfeld.
