Exclamation I Absolutely Refuse to Live in a Country Where...

...Sandra Bullock could beat Meryl Streep at acting.

This is my number one fear of Oscar night tomorrow. Sandra Bullock makes some cute movies, but she never is and never will be a Meryl Streep. Or a Helen Mirren. If she beats these ladies tomorrow I give up.

I love Sandra, but she just isn't Oscar material. As I've stated before, she might have been good in her role, but it wasn't something that many other actresses couldn't have pulled off just as well, if not better. For some reason, she's captured all of the buzz and will probably be taking home the statue tomorrow. She's also been making the rounds this past month, schmoozing with Academy members. Not that I can blame her for that, I'd probably do the same thing. However, if there's any category this year that has any wiggle room at all for another winner, it's this one. It would be nice to see this as a repeat of the Lead Actor category last year. Both Mickey Rourke and Sean Penn were front runners, with Mickey having a bit more of an edge and ultimately expected to win. However, Sean won. I'd love to see Meryl take it.

Did you know it has been 26 years since Meryl has won an Oscar? It's hard to believe, but Meryl Streep, arguably America's most acclaimed actress, has not won an Academy Award since 1983, when she took home the Best Actress trophy for 'Sophie's Choice.' (Three years earlier she nabbed her first Oscar for her supporting role in 'Kramer vs. Kramer.')

And she's been nominated 12 times since then. Five years is the longest span of time that she's gone without being nominated since 1979.

I know. She's had more nominations than Katharine Hepburn, yet Hepburn won four times. Poor Meryl. She's the Susan Lucci of the Academy Awards. She's always nominated, she always shows up, and her name is never called.

I haven't seen "The Blindside" with Bullock, but I did see Julie & Julia and was pretty bored with it. Meryl was great as Julia Childs, but I don't know if she is winning it this year.

Article on Who Will Win/Who Should Win:

I agree with all of the "Who Will Win's," but I don't agree with all of the "Should's."

I did see The Blind Side and I have to say I was far more impressed with the actor who played Micheal Oher than I was with Sandra. This was a very good movie based on a great story but I really don't think Sandra's performance was Oscar worthy. I think the reason Sandra was nominated and is getting all this buzz is because this wasa movie that drew such sympathy for its subject and because it was based on a true story.

No offense, but aren't you being a bit overdramatic? MS is awesome, but I doubt the Oscars are the end all for her. IMO I consider critical acclaim a higher honor than an Oscar

I'm such an Oscar junkie. I tape the award shows every year, and can recite the winners of Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor & Actress since 1927. This is my superbowl. Any "critical acclaim" is secondary to that 80 year old gold man.

I agree. Most people know that an Oscar is the most prestigious award you can get in the business. And in movie trailers, you hear, "Academy Award winner..." You don't hear, "Critically acclaimed..."

This is comparable to Julia Roberts's win. I LOVE Julia, but did she deserve to win over Ellen Burstyn? No.

It's the exact same thing as Sandra. They did well in their roles, but many other actresses could have pulled off the same performance, or better.

Everyone deserves their time to shine, Meryl has hers, and other actresses are getting theirs, I'm sure Meryl would agree, given she's that kind of great lady.

I guess I don't get the big deal some are making of this.....
