Might anyone know how many households tuned in to the final episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on March 19, 1977?
Thanks! |

http://news.google.com/newspapers?id...+ratings&hl=en In 1977, there were 2.83 persons per household, so that means AT LEAST 51.55 million people (2.83 X 18 million) watched that final episode. So given that the U.S. population in 1977 was 220,239,425, AT LEAST so 23.4 percent of the population (almost one in four people) were watching Mary that night. But the reason I'm saying at least is that I'm basing the number of viewers on the average number of people per household. But I'm sure that night there were a lot of Mary Tyler Moore Show last show parties going on around the country, especially given that it was Saturday night and people hang out with their friends on Saturday night. So a lot of those homes had more than just the average of 2.83 persons watching. I imagine the total number of people watching that night was much more than 51 million people and 23.4 percent of the population. |
