Angry Some People Mess Up Second Chances!

I was reading a story in a magazine, where this teenage girl said that she was a kleptomaniac, and had enjoyed it at the time she was doing it. She said she started off small, stealing "Breath Sprays" at local convienience stores, and loved the rush she got when she wasn't caught. She was soon stealing slightly higher priced items than "breath spray"(which is roughly 1.00 or so), to CD's from music stores (roughly around 16.99).

She went even higher, and begun stealing 40.00 clothing. She was now stealing watches, CD's, clothes, shoes, anything she wanted, she just swiped without paying. Her parents begun asking where she got all the stuff from, and she said something like, "My friends who moved away last month bought all of these things for me." She said to the reader, "I was usually an honest, goody two shoes so they had no reason not to believe me.", At one mall store she hit, she was found trying to steal 100.00 worth of clothes. She cried and said she was sorry, and wouldn't do it again, and begged for the manager/security not to send her to jail or call her parents, and the manager/security had sympathy for her(she was around 16), and just let her put the clothes back and let her go home, with no persecution.

She *GASP* stole AGAIN at another store, this time over 300.00 worth of clothes. When she was caught by the manager/security, she did the same crying/begging/ apologizing routine she had done at the other store, thinking they would feel sorry for her, and let her go home, but this manager/security was strict and didn't fall for this routine. The manager/security made her sit in a room and called the police, who escorted her to the local police station, where they called her parents. Her parents were FURIOUS, but SILENT, which scared the sh... out of er. She thought that this "SILENT" fury meant that they were so mad at her, they couldn't speak. After a short while, she was grounded for two months, and after the grounding, she had to get a job to pay back everything she had stolen from a whole bunch of stores. She permenantely stopped stealing, learning her lesson.

She really fu... up the second chance the first manager/security gave her. That was dumb of her. But, she got in trouble and learned her lesson not to steal anymore, so good for her.

Yes, good for her. I'm all for reform and forgiveness, more so than most I think. So it wasn't you then ?

It doesn't sound to me like this girl was a kleptomaniac. Kleptomania is real mental illness and kleptomaniacs rarely steal big ticket items or things they "want." They impulsively grab small, meaningless things as a way of controlling extreme anxiety and later regret what they have done, causing more severe emotional problems and depression.

To me, it sounds like she was a spoiled teenager who thought she could get what she wanted without getting caught. I am glad she learned her lesson and quit stealing. A kleptomaniac would not be able to just stop after being caught without some intensive psychotherapy.
