Interesting observations about UM re-enactments and the weather

Hi Everyone,
I thought to post this thread b/c as I am watching some of the UM re-enactments, I am struck by the weather. If you look very closely, the weather that you see in these scenes just does not match up with how the weather SHOULD BE, in any given time or place. Have any of you guys ever picked up on this? I've always wondered about this.

The Lawrence Harding case: Supposed to take place in Chicago, on June 30, 1944. If you look VERY closely, you will see that there are no leaves on the trees, and you can see the actors' breath when they shout out. Also, even though the kidnappers and Lawrence's mother are wearing summery clothing, baby Lawrence is well bundled in blankets and warm clothes

The Blair Adams case: When Blair Adams' body is found, in July in Tennessee, the investigators are wearing heavy raincoats

The Marie Hilley Case: When Hilley is arrested in January in New Hampshire, it is raining, and the leaves on the trees are green. Neither Hilley nor the officers seem to be wearing any coats

The John branion case: Yellow leaves on the trees at Christmastime in Chicago, and NO SNOW on the ground. One of the northwestern professors mentions that snow was a condition that would have affected how quickly Dr. Branion could have arrived home, and which could (dis)prove if he killed his wife.

Can anyone think of any other cases?

I noticed in the Anna Anton/Greg Webb case that it was clearly filmed in the summertime, and the murder took place in December. In Nebraska, there would be snow everywhere at that time of year.

The DePue story is filmed in the fall, and it was springtime when that murder occurred (Easter).

Yes I remember the ANna ANton case! I remember the scene of Greg Webb carrying Anna's body into the cornfields, and how bright the sunshine was. And yes, as an honorary Midwesterner (Iowa student!) i know that there SHOULD be snow everywhere, and definitely no fertile cornfields!

My favorite was the UFO case which took place in Pennsylvania in December (1965?) and kids in t-shirts are out riding bikes under green-leaved trees.

That's the one I was going to post.

The ATV Murders occured in June or July, and the segment was definitely filmed in fall or winter; there are absolutely no leaves on any of the trees and everyone's in heavy coats.

In the NH Serial Killer segment, the attack on Jane Boroski occured in August, on a "hot, muggy evening"--that's why she stopped for that soda in the first place. But the actress portraying her is wearing a rather warm-looking long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

LOL! I remember the ATV murders happened on my birthday, July 9, in Tennessee. I forgot about that one!

I believe UM had Annette Schnee being found in the snow when she was actually found 6 months after her disappearence in January 1982. Sad case, but there are people all around with heavy coats on, and a well preserved body I would suspect wasn't in great shape IRL after being found in the summer.

Pedro Santiago's was hit by a car in front of his house and killed in December. In the re-enactment though, while UM tried to make it look like the story was happening in colder weather with heavy clothes, the grass is green and the trees have green leaves on them. More like a summer filming than mid December.

Yeah, I pointed that out before. Annette's body was found in July (and she was lying face down in a creek, not in a snow bank) but it's understandable that UM wouldn't want to wait 6 months to come back and film that 10 second scene. And as a matter of fact, Annette's body was actually pretty well preserved when it was found because of it being out in the bitter cold temperatures for the entire Winter.

The reenactments were filmed in January (around the exact 8 year anniversary of the double murder). The book "Monster" tells that it was tough filming those scenes because of the cold. Especially the scenes that involved Bobbie and Annette trying to escape the killer and where they had to lay down in the snow and play dead. Those poor actresses had to take frequent breaks from filming to go the trailers and warm up because of the extreme cold.

Annette Schnee's mother had flown in from Iowa to watch the UM segment get filmed. When the actors were rehearsing Bobbie's final moments, the actress playing Bobbie needed another break because she was shivering so Mrs. Schnee quickly put a blanket around her. The actress also was concerned over how cold her feet were. Apparently the boots she was wearing were geared more towards fashion and not for extreme cold temperatures, so Mrs. Schnee offered to trade boots with her for filming those final scenes. So that close up shot of Bobbie falling out of the killer's van, those are actually Annette Schnee's mother's boots. Very random fact, but I found it interesting.

Don Kemp-when they show his car abandoned with his belongings surrounding it, the weather appears to be either in spring, summer, or early fall, but a blizzard made it impossible to search for him after a couple days.

It should have been snowing at the time his car was found, which is another reason he may have been able to hide from them if he was disoriented or afraid.

I don't know whether re-airings included this, but the original had both a recreated scene and real crime scene photos, which didn't match--one had more snow than the other. Neither had heavy snow, which would have left footprints which could be followed.
