Default Poppo's Den

Even though the Lanes didn't move, Poppo's den changed. Maybe it had a door on both sides!

Default It wasn't uncommon for....

...a "standing" set to change from season to season on most TV sitcoms.

Take Sidney Sheldon's other series, "I DREAM OF JEANNIE". The interior of Major Nelson's living room was slightly different every season! For example, the bar area on the right (towards the front door), in the first season, was shifted across the room to the left (towards the fireplace) in the second...then completely eliminated in season three.

So why shouldn't Martin Lane's den look a little different?

Or a simpler explanation is that they moved the show from New York to California after Season Two. The whole house changed. Heck their whole neighborhood changed. Even their address!

Default You may be right, 'randy'...

...but how do you explain the slight difference in Martin's den during the first two seasons, when the series was still being filmed in New York?

You'd have to point out the differences between Season One and Two. I don't know them off the top of my head, and I haven't began watching the Season Two DVDs yet.

I was referring to the big changes for Season Three.

The photos I posted were from season one and season two to show the difference.

Oops, I mistook your season two photo for season three. Maybe Natalie kept going on about fixing up the house and Martin finally gave in. At least they didn't settle on that Japanese motif.

Interesting observation there. It's possible there were doors on both sides of the room to allow for different camera angles when someone entered the room.

The third season was definitely different, it looks like the family moved out of the city and became suburbanites. I like season 3, it's a little more subdued compared to the first two seasons and a couple episodes don't quite hit the mark but overall it's a good season. Ross is more involved in the third season episodes and Cathy isn't seen as often.

Cath only had one major storyline in Season 3 while Ross and Patty had several. Even though she became a minor character Cathy did start to dress a little trendier, had a new hairdo, and discovered make-up and false eyelashes.

The stairway seemed different too, but I may be wrong.

I liked some of the Season 3 changes, especially the new hairdo for Natalie (Jean Byron) which seemed to suit her well. I also liked the new logo for the opening.

About the only thing I really missed was the original closing / credits sequence singing, which I loved -- "Here's Cathy..." -- and I just can't accept the difference. The original singer (at its start) was so captivating!

Through the seasons, I always preferred Cathy's look overall -- but Patty sort of closed the gap in Season 3. Ms. Duke looked fine as both characters!
