Kansas City, Mo. -- Baseball fans who sit six rows behind the third-base dugout at the Kansas City Royals' stadium know they might have to duck a few foul balls. But a Kansas man says it was a flying hot dog, not a baseball, that almost put his eye out last year.

John Coomer has filed a lawsuit against the Royals seeking more than $25,000 for injuries he sustained Sept. 8 when he was smacked in the eye with a hot dog chucked by the team's mascot, Sluggerrr.Coomer said the wayward wiener caused a detached retina and the development of cataracts in his left eye.

The Royals declined to comment Tuesday. The team is looking for someone new to wear the mascot's large lion costume, spokesman Toby Cook says there's "no connection" with the hot dog affair.

I saw this on the news. When shot out of those machines, objects like a hot dog can travel with a lot of velocity. So yes, I think he has a valid case.

They should just stop doing all fun things for the fans or they'll always be subject of a suit if something goes wrong.

How about... THE FACT HE ALMOST LOST HIS EYE???? Is that good enough for you? I suppose if you got smacked really hard in the eye with a flying hot dog and almost lost your eye, you'd be just fine with that and wouldn't press charges.

Whenever you go to a sporting event you will find a warning on the back of the ticket warning you to pay attention to the game at all times because a ball, puck, etc may fly into the stands. In some cases this warning is given over the P.A. system. If the Kansas City Royals can prove that this warning was given and that this fan did not heed the warning he may not have a case.

I disagree, The warning should only cover objects actually used in a game. Baseballs will always go into the stands and bats will to although not that often. These are accidents and from the way I read the article, The hot dog was intentionally launched into the stands so yes the man has a case. What's surprising to me is that he's only suing for $25,000. If it were me, I'd be seeking more.

I think he does have a case. It is not a case of is this good enough for me,
I was just asking the question to try to get other peoples opinions on the
matter. You don't have to put words or opinions in my mouth and I don't
appreciate you doing so.

man you can sue over anything these days. i been watching jude judy and peoples court a lot. people sue over the stupidest stuff. i rember while back this kid try sued mcdonles becuase he got fat. that sound silly.
