Jetherine - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I've been watching my DVD of "THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION-VOLUME 1" again, and I got to wondering-since they stopped showing Jetherine (I'm assuming it's because Max Baer stopped playing her because the makeup was affecting his skin) did they ever have a final episode for her? I know she left and went back home; in one episode someone-I think Elly-says "Pearls been wantin' ta go see Jetherine".

I remember reading somewhere that what made it so hard on Max's skin was going back and forth between the two characters. He said it would have been easier if once he was in the Jethrene costume and make-up they would have shot all of Jethrene's scenes. But that wasn't they way they did it. So he was forced to keep changing costumes and changing make-up to go back and forth between the two characters and that was what damaged his skin.

Too bad because Jethrine was hilarious.

yes, she was. I wish they'd kept her around longer. I would have liked to see her in some of the color episodes.

There's a brief mention of Jetherine in one episode when Pearl was still living with the Hillbillies and somebody says Jetherine has gone home to marry her beau Jazzbo Depew. It was way to send Jetherine packing and keep Pearl (of course Pearl was gone the next season herself since Bea Benaderet got her own series PETTICOAT JUNCTION).

I can understand Jetherine not being a regular character later on but it would have been cool to have her "guest star" once in a while since it was a very funny spoof of an oversized mountain girl but since Bea was busy with PJ we never saw Pearl again either except for one cameo appearance in 1967 or so where she is talking on the phone and not really reunited with the Hillbillies.
