Question If you Absolutely, Positively Had to Have A TV Remake, Which Show Would You Suggest?

If you were a television exec and were ordered to remake a classic tv show, which show would you remake and why? Remember, for every The Office or 90210, there is a Coupling or Bionic Woman.

The Facts Of Life. i think it could be very successful today if it were tweaked a bit for the current audience.

Cool

I think you need to pick a show whose theme is universal. And what is more universal than a show about a teacher and their pupils. That is why I would remake "Our Miss Brooks". It would be difficult to cast the leading role though. Eve Arden's shoes would be very difficult to fill! Also it's been long enough since the original run for this to seem original to almost all viewers.

I wonder if a modern-day MASH would work. Or a more updated version of shows like Saved by the Bell or Facts of Life.

Personally, I wish they'd stop with the remakes and try to come up with some original material.

Honestly, I really couldn't see The Facts of Life working again. For every fan of the show there is today, there's an equal "hater" who can't wait to laugh at a FOL joke or pun. It was a great show for the '80s, but today, I can't see the audience embracing it as much.

I would go a similar route, though. I'd really like to see The Wonder Years remade. For such a good show it was/is, it would be nearly impossible to reach that greatness again. But, I'd like a network to try. ABC would be the most likely, and I think if they tried, they could make it work. Or perhaps even a Boy Meets World for today's generation. It just seems like a show like that would fit wonderfully into ABC's family-comedy block.

The Office and Coupling aren't considered remakes, they're American versions of British shows, in the tradition of All in the Family and Three's Company. 90210 I would say is a very minimal success. The only exceptional sucessful re-make I can think of is Star Trek!

If he's thinking of Star Trek TNG then that show was not a remake but a continuation.

Exactly Star Trek TNG has a whole different cast of characters and picks up the story a century after the original series.

Peyton Place. It's a concept/story that's begging for a revisiting, IMO.

Yeah, that makes sense, Star Trek, was a continuation, so I would think [I]Melrose/I] was also, but 90210 I guess would be a remake.

90210 isn't a remake IMO, since Jennie Garth and, for a few episodes, Shannen Doherty played their original 90210 characters in this one. A remake would be new actors playing the same characters.

Yeah I thought of that afterward, just like Heather Locklear returned to Melrose Place.
