In a new interview with The Tavis Smiley Show, Tracy Morgan attributes his sobriety to family.
Following arrests in 2005 and 2006 for DUI, the 30 Rock star was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet; His 21-year marriage to ex-wife Sabina Morgan soon came to an end and the couple’s three sons Tracy Jr., 23, Malcolm, 22, and Gitrid, 18, were left feeling “disappointed” by their dad, he says. “I’m walking around with a bracelet on my ankle and my son [is] looking at me like I’m Kunta Kinte,” Tracy recalls. When Gitrid began to ask, “What if I started drinking and driving? Would that be cool?” Tracy knew he needed to make a change. “That was it for me,” he insists. “That was the end of it.” “That right there just made me look in the mirror like, I got to step up my game. So I did, and I’m glad it came from my son. I love him.” Tracy is quick to add that it isn’t the first time Gitrid and his brothers saved their dad. “Before, I was on the street corner in Brooklyn hanging out, just hanging out,” he explains. “Then I had these kids, and they gave me responsibility and made me grow up and become a man, so again, there he was to rescue me.” If Tracy has his way, Gitrid will soon be helping others as well. After his youngest son voiced uncertainty about what to do with his life, Tracy advised him to give back. “I said, ‘Well, you’re 18,’” Tracy recalls. “If you really don’t know what to do with your life, go help somebody.” Tracy’s new film Cop Out opens Feb. 26th. http://celebrity-babies.com/2010/02/...th-his-rescue/ |
