Cool Before Mad Men's Don Draper, There was Bewitched's Darrin Stevens

One of the most beloved sitcoms of the '60s comes to TVLand beginning March 1. And one of the characters is an Adman so impressive it took actors to portray him.

We're speaking, of course, of "Bewitched," starring Elizabeth Montgomery as everybody's favorite stay-at-home mom/witch, Samantha Stevens, and, as her adman husband, Darrin. Darrin was first played by DIck York and, later in the series, by Dick Sargent.

TVLand will air a "Bewitched" marathon on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21. However the show will air daily, starting at 5 p.m., starting March 1.

Mad Men is a show set in an ad agency in the 60s. It airs on A&E, but the first couple of seasons are on DVD.

Not A&E, on AMC.

Well, I'm a watcher of Mad Men and an occasional Bewitched watcher (I've seen enough to get the general idea of the show) but I really don't see the connection.

Default Mad Men and Bewitched Connection

My brother and I watch Mad Men and right away we noticed "aesthetic" similarities in the physical looks of several characters on this show and Bewitched. We even wondered if the creator patterned their looks after the Bewitched characters. Though, with most of them, there is not anything more than their looks that are parallel to the characters on Bewitched. Don Draper looks like a more "model looking" Darrin, Betty Draper certainly has physical similarities to Samantha during the first few seasons even down to the way she wears her hair (one character compared her to Grace Kelly and Liz Montgomery has been referred to more than once as "the Grace Kelly of television"), Roger Sterling looks like Larry Tate without the mustache and likes to "look at the ladies"(and that's putting it mildly) and as we know it was mildly inferred in a very sanitized way that Larry Tate had a wandering eye...), and even the boss, Bertrum Cooper, has some similar looks to Mr. McMann (on the few episodes he appeared on Bewitched) and even plays a very much "removed" head of the ad agency much like Mr. McMann was at McMann and Tate. Does anyone else see these or any other similarities that stand out????
