I wonder where he is these days. The update said he would be in jail for 12 years.

Two things that bugged me about this case:
1. The investigator on the segment said "there are no cases that have a higher priority" than this one, because the guy preys on the most vulnerable. And yet, the bail was set at a whopping $5,000. If it was such a "high priority", why was the bail set so low? 2. How is it that 12 years in prison is going to prevent this man from doing something like this again? All this does is protect children for a little over a decade, and then after he gets released, a new generation of children is at peril. Perhaps there are conditions in his release, such as that he is not allowed to be around children or something, but if there are not, I don't know what to think of this sentence. Just as an aside: I can't believe how uncanny the resemblance between the real Dale Hyde and the actor who played him were. |

I am almost afraid to think what he's doing these days...I hope he's not abusing other children.

Every time I rewatch this one I get chills. Anyone know if he's been causing trouble?

Here's something I randomly stumbled on tonight as I was trying to dig up some info on Dale Hyde.
http://openjurist.org/995/f2d/1068/u...ates-v-tidwell Not much new information, but I was just surprised to finally see ANYTHING about this case online. |

I was 10 when Stanton was profiled, and even then I thought the "Need to inspect the milk" bit was ridiculous.
But back to the topic. I think I have mentioned before a few years back about how frightening the Dale Hyde segment was to me. First, both the re-enactment actor and the real guy looked a lot like my real father. But the pictures UM showed of the little boy & his injuries were pretty scary too. I'm sure it was done to protect the boy's identity, but UM put a black rectangle over his eyes when showing the whole photo, then showed an extreme close up of just his eyes.

I almost said something to my Mom about all of this. Thankfully I didn't! I guess when you're a kid you see the world as a much smaller place. Obviously, the whole situation is laughable now as an adult. On a different note, I always wondered about Hyde like what became of him. I seem to remember the psychologist talking about Hyde's temper, and how he would best function in a highly controlled and regimented environment. Then, after Hyde was caught, it seemed like he got some slap on the wrist type sentence. I assume he got out long ago. |

There's a Dale Hyde on facebook living in Houston, Texas. Looks wise, it could be the same guy, but it's hard to tell. If it is him, for someone in his early to mid 50s, he hasn't aged well at all....serves him right.
This case always bugged me. I actually don't like watching the segment. |

I don't have that segment, but in the poor quality UM photo I have, Dale appeared to have brown eyes. The FB guy in Houston has eyes that are very light blue or hazel.

It sickens me that this waste of space killed his own child in 1979 and didn't get much of a punishment at all. Then, in 1985, he almost kills one of his girlfriends sons. After all of this, he only gets 12 years in prison. If he is still alive, he is likely out, walking among us.
What's worse is the psychiatric evaluation said these tendencies Hyde had toward hurting children, were ingrained in him. The doctor suggested that he be admitted to a ward where he can be watched 24 hours a day. Ridiculous that he only received a 12 year sentence. |
