Default Found out that DWAYNE from What's Happening auditioned for the role of Michael Evans

But lost out of course o Ralph Carter. Haywood Nelson is on TV one tonight being interviewd and said that he audutioned with Bernadette Stanis for the role of Michael in 1974 but didn't get the job.

Never knew that.

He said it was hard watching Good Times because he felt that he thought he had the part.

He really shouldn't be too upset, because he ended up just fine. lol

I know he was much taller and maybe they were aiming for a younger looking character to play the part

That is interesting. I never knew that either. Maybe they were looking for a son that was kind of earthy and emotional like Ralph put into the Michael character. I couldn't see Haywood as that type of actor. And hey, at least the Dwayne character coined the phrase, "Hey hey, hey!" So he should be proud. Him being turned down actually did him a favor.

It was interesting information. But I think Ralph Carter was a better fit for the part of Michael. And like it's being said, so it looked like he made out quite well anyway .

Yes, I agree. Carter was good as Michael (who was a serious character, and contrasted well with J.J.'s clownish character). imo, Dwayne was better as a funny kid on What's Happening.

Not that he couldn't have pulled off playing Michael. But it is hard to imagine him being as serious as Michael's character sometimes called for.

I'm glad the both casting parts worked out the way they did.
