Default Designing Women - The Complete Third Season DVD Review

A little southern charm returns to DVD with The Complete Third Season of Designing Women! The hit series about four businesswomen (and their delivery guy, Anthony) in Atlanta running a design firm returns for 22 more episodes in a four disc set.

The third season was where the show really started to pick up, and is one of the first really strong seasons of the series. By now, all of the characters have been established and Bernice (Alice Ghostley), the elderly woman with an “arterial flow” problem begins to become a more established character in the show. Much of the idea is still the same though: it is just four women trying to run a successful design firm in Atlanta.

I thought that I would make a couple of notes, though not major. The premiere opens with the syndicated version of the theme song, and seems to use the syndicated version up till the first fade out, which is about 4 minutes into the episode. However, comparing it with the CBS version I have, there is nothing missing. Second, there was an old Louie Armstrong version of "Georgia on My Mind" that played for "The Candidate," but it is replaced with the standard mid-season 3 to season 5 theme. And last, it seems that they used the mid-season 3 theme to open all the episodes (save for the premiere) on this set. There was another version of the theme that was used from "EP Phone Home" to "The Naked Truth." However, none of the content has been edited. All the music is intact, I thought I would point out these little differences.

Bit odd since "Big Haas and Little Falsie" on the "best of" DVD set uses the jazzier tune, while on this set is features the "standard" seasons 3-5 intro.
All the music isnt intact, the background music at Bill's bachelor party has been changed.

I Knew It! I KNEW IT! Because of that Prince song, they had to change the music! oh well

That's what I hate about DVDs - the music licensing issues. It happened with WKRP and why an official release of The Wonder Years will never see the light of day.

At least background music can be replaced though, its worse when the characters themselves sing. Cheap companies (LionsGate, CBS) tend to remove the entire scenes.

Thank you so much for clarifying this! I just started watching the DVDs and was going to post about 'Reservations for 12 Plus Ursula.' I'm glad to hear no dialogue is missing.

I used to have the CBS versions of seasons 1 - 4 but tossed at least the first three after the DVDs came out. Now I wish I still had 'em, if only for the original theme music
