Default Favorite Foreign Stars

I can't be the only one who watches foreign films here. There's so many talented stars who appear in non-English speaking films, who are your favorites? And what are their best movies?

I've got several:

Catherine Deneuve (French)

This lady is the walking definition of beauty. In my own humble opinion (and yeah, I'm a female) I think she's the most beautiful woman to ever appear on film. She's probably most famous for Indochine and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg but my favorite will always be Donkey Skin.

Klaus Kinski (German)

This guy was a complete nut, but a very talented nut. He always had such passion in his eyes (which was probably also part insanity) but he's amazing to watch. I think my favorite film of his is Fitcarraldo although his cameo in Doctor Zhivago is stunning too. I wish he had lived a longer life. His autobiography is one of the most interesting pieces of fiction I've ever read

Shah Rukh Khan (Indian)

The King of Bollywood. This guy is not the handsomest man in the world, but he's got great charisma. I'm a sucker for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Something's Happening) any day.

Though they have reached worldwide fame my favorite foreign stars would have to go to Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

I think that their foreign releases are far superior to their Western ones.

The foreign movies I watch are mostly martial art related.

I also watch most of the Asian horror that the Americans tend to remake; like Ringu, Kairo, and Ju-on: The Grudge.

Also, one of my favorite filmmakers is Japanese director Takaski Miike.

He's most known for Audition and Ichi the Killer.

I like Anouk Amick (or however you spell her name). She was in A Man and A Woman, and a few of Felini's films as well.

I also like Tishuro Mifurn. He was in several Kirosowa's films.

I LOVED the original Ju-On. It was soooooo much better than the remake!

Just a few more:

Jean Marais (French)

This guy was so cool. He played 3 roles in the original La Belle et la Bete (Beauty and the Beast) and was the creepy King in Donkey Skin

Peter Lorre (Austro-Hungarian)

Sure, he made a ton of Hollywood movies, but have you ever seen M? He was an amazing actor in any language.

Franka Potente (German)

The Borne Identity and Run Lola Run are pretty famous, but check out The Princess and the Warrior for a seriously cool movie.

She also had a brief stint on FX's "The Shield" as an Armenian mob boss' daughter.

Hugo Stiglitz
Popular Mexican B-movie actor. Some of my favorites he was in was Rubén Galindo Jr's Mexican slasher Cementerio del terror, ncubo sulla cittŕ contaminata (aka City of the Walking Dead), and Guyana: Crime of the Century(which was inspired by the Jonestown incident)

Tarantino named one of his characters after him in Inglorious Basterds

Terrence Hill(aka Mario Girotti)
The Hugo Stiglitz of Italy, even though he's had a huge body of work in Italy his biggest claim to fame here in the States was his starring role opposite Ernest Borgnine in the 1980 buddy cop/superhero movie Super Fuzz(Poliziotto superpiů)

Asia Argento
Daughter of Italian director Dario Argento(thankfully she didn't get his looks)...she starred in many of his films including The Church and Trauma...and yes she was in that Vin Diesel movie....

Franka Potente is great, Run Lola Run is one of my favorites, and I liked her in Creep.

Anouk Aimee was from A Man & A Woman.

Paul Naschy
Spanish horror icon whose most famous for his series of werewolf films that spanned 5 decades. One of my favorites of his is the 2001 Spanish horror film School Killer. Sadly he passed away this last November.

Klaus Kinski was excellent. My personal favorites of his are Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht, and the very underrated scifi flick Android('82), and the incredible Aguirre: The Wrath of God(Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes)

If you haven't seen it yet, you should check out Werner Herzog's docu/bio about him and Kinski- My Best Friend(Mein liebster Feind - Klaus Kinski)

I'm a big fan of Asian cinema- horror, action, martial arts. I love the Ringu Trilogy, Tale of Two Sisters, 2LDK, Battle Royale, Chinese Ghost Story, Evil Dead Trap, Shaolin Soccer, Terrifying Girls' High School: Lynch Law Classroom, House('77 a fantastically surreal horror comedy fantasy), Close Encounters of the Spooky Kind(great martial arts horror blend with Sammo Hung).
Plus all of the old Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh movies, the films they did together and their solo work- especially Yeoh's Wing Chun.

Since I'm remembering....

Michelle Yeoh
Malaysian martial arts sensation. Enjoyed her films with Jackie Chan(Police Story film series), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Heroic Trio, and Wing Chun too name a few.

Shaolin Soccer was great as was Kung Fu Hustle.

I also remember seeing at one point years ago Terrifying Girls' High School: Lynch Law Classroom. The only thing I seem to remember is the "pee in the classroom" scene.

I also enjoyed Stephen Chow's CJ7 which was kind of like a live-action anime Gremlins/ET family flick.

I like the Pinky Violence films. I still haven't bought the Pinky Violence box set yet which has(Criminal Woman -- Killing Melody, Delinquent Girl Boss -- Worthless to Confess, Girl Boss Guerrilla, and Terrifying Girls' High School -- Lynch Law Classroom)
