Default My Three Sons - The Second Season - Volume One DVD Review

Get ready for more brotherly love (along with dad and grandpa) in Volume 1 of The Second Season of My Three Sons! The long running series is back for 18 more episodes on a three disc set. My Three Sons, for those unfamiliar with the series, is the series about widower Steve Douglas (Fred MacMurray) trying to raise his three sons, Mike (Tim Considine), Robbie (Don Grady), and Chip (Stanley Livingston) with the help of their grandfather, Bub (William Frawley). The series was a deviation from the standard family sitcom where both a mother and father ruled the household, with this house being a house of nothing but guys. The series was one of the longest running family sitcoms ever (running for 12 years, beginning in 1960 on ABC and ending in 1972 on CBS). Although the series underwent a number of changes over the years, with changing sons and changing grandfather figures, the premise always was the same--a father trying to raise his three sons the best that he possibly could.

Very nice review....Frank DeVol (Happy Kyne From "Fernwood/America 2 Nite) passed away in 1999 so I guess his estate would control royalties if he indeed did create the replaced music, and since CBS/Paramount insisits on releasing these in two parts, thus getting about $60 per season from the consumer, you think they could have afforded to have the original minor transistion music. Again though a very nice review...

Also I wonder why there were no music problems with MPI's stellar job at releasing the other 60's Don Fedderson produced series, "Family Affair" which I believe was also scored by Frank Devol.

I like this show and am glad its on DVD, but with them splitting up the seasons like this, by the time they get to the last season it will be over a decade.

CBS has ruined these DVD's with the music replacements. I imagine My Three Sons on DVD is not a huge seller, die hard fans of the show are the majority making the purchases. With these music replacements, more fans will avoid the DVD sets resulting in fewer sales and the series eventually getting abandoned by the studio. What a shame and so unnessessary. The music issues with some of these older TV shows is a crock of legal BS.

I personally would have loved to buy the B&W years with Tim Considine (Mike) but what a turn-off with all these music replacements and splitting volumes.
I'll save my money for another TV show instead.
