Cool Jane Leeves On The Set Of Hot In Cleveland - New TV Show

It's great that Jane will be in a new show that will air later this year. It will air on TV Land.

http://www.etonline.com/news/2010/02/83743/

Melissa Rycroft Visits Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves & Betty White on the Set of 'Hot in Cleveland'

Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Mallick and Jane Leeves discover life can be pretty "Hot in Cleveland," and ET's special correspondent Melissa Rycroft gets the ladies to tell her why.

"'Hot in Cleveland' is about three women of a certain age who decide to take a trip to Paris together. One is going through a divorce. My character is the eyebrow queen of Beverly Hills, and Wendie's character is the soap queen. Anyway, by a series of unfortunate events we have to make an emergency landing in Cleveland, much to our chagrin. But when we start hanging out in Cleveland, we find out men our own age think we are hot, hence the title 'Hot in Cleveland,'" Jane tells Melissa.

Valerie adds, "[My character] wrote a book, 200 Things You Want to do Before You Die. One was to fly to Paris with your best friends. So we're on our way and we end up crash landing in Cleveland. My ex-husband is on the plane with his fiancée. So, I see him and realize I have nothing there, so we walk into this bar, in Cleveland...."

The new sitcom is being produced by former "Will & Grace" star Sean Hayes' Hazy Mills Productions.

"It was a great concept. It's kind of a show that no network would attempt to do because it's about older women," Sean tells Melissa, who compares it to "Golden Girls." "'Golden Girls' is true … It's a different time now and I don't believe any network would do something like this because they fear the younger viewers wouldn't watch older women."

TV Land not only had no fear, they actually hired former "Golden Girls" star Betty White for a recurring role.

"I'm an old pain in the house that they rent," Betty jokes. Then she adds that it is just the opposite on the set: "It's not only delightful, but the chemistry between the three girls is just delicious."

Entertainment Tonight Video -- Hot In Cleveland's Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick

Re: Hot In Cleveland and its very well-cast, uh, cast ...

Dear TV Land,

Please send me the results of this photo shoot with the cast of Hot in Cleveland depicted in this clip from ET so that I don't have to use grainy stills from a YouTube clip.

Also, as this is gonna be a big show for you guys, please don't forget the random blogger who's posted about your other maybe not so popular show at your request over the last four years when you offer set visits to members of the press and other adjacent types.

Also ...

Dear Jane Leeves,

You look amazing! What are you doing that has you looking so great? People wanna know. Well, I'm not sure they wanna know but I betcha when they see you in this clip they'll be asking so I thought I'd ask in advance. We'll be looking for you to share your secrets in due time, happy to see you working with such a great cast on a project has great buzz attached to it.

Continuing ...

Dear Val,

Still remarkable, all these years later. I still think of you bouncing that basketball on the roof of that station wagon in the opening credits of One Day ...

So happy you're doing something other than inspiring people to lose weight. Not that it isn't appreciated by that crowd, but I've been waiting for another sitcom from you since Sydney ( for which a clip cannot be found (damn!) and Cafe Americain (click the title, watch the clip).

We grew up together ... you on TV, of course and me in my living room. Those connections just don't quit, do they.

Much love from a longtime fan.

Dear Wendie,

Everything you touch turns golden. Can't wait for you to shine in this as well. You just keep returning to our living rooms in the best stuff. Thrilled you're part of this cast as well, it should be a great time. You'll excuse me though if I cut this short because I have to address the ...

... the ...

Dear Ms. White,

Yes, you are "the dear Ms. White." Such an icon. It will be my absolutely pleasure to see you once again work your magic on a soundstage in front of the cameras. Know that you are beloved by millions around the world and have cemented your place in our hearts.

So looking forward to this series and your having fun with these four women on our TVs for as long as you'll grace us with your presence.

And looking forward to the announcement of your SNL gig. If you could, please ask for Cheri Oteri to join you, I don't think she gets the respect she's due from the show or the guy who runs it.

Most Sincerely Yours (to all),

Your TV Junkie

And I mean it. More on the show as we get closer to an airdate.

'Hot In Cleveland': Betty White and gals go to town in new TV Land sitcom
By Cristina Kinon
Daily News Staff Writer

Sunday, June 13th 2010, 9:48 AM

Starring on a sitcom with legendary actress Betty White might seem like a dream come true, but there is at least one downside to working with the former "Golden Girls" star.

"I can never complain about being tired,” jokes Jane Leeves, who works alongside White in “Hot in Cleveland,” TV Land’s first original scripted comedy.

"It is such an inspiration to go to work with someone who’s nearly 90 years old and just so vibrant and witty and makes everyone feel at ease immediately,” adds Leeves. “I don’t know what her secret is, but I’m going to find out.”

"Hot in Cleveland,” premiering Wednesday night at 10, features Jane Leeves, Valerie Bertinelli and Wendie Malick as Los Angeles women of a certain age who literally crash-land in Cleveland, discover they are still desirable in the Midwest and decide to stay. The home they rent comes with one catch, however: a sassy caretaker, Elka, played by White.

Executive producer Todd Milliner says casting for the series came together perfectly. Bertinelli, Leeves and Malick were the production’s first choices all around, but there were backup plans if any of the women turned them down. It was a different story for White.

Milliner wasn’t sure White would want to take on a full-time job as a regular on the series, so he lured her in with an offer to do the pilot and a couple of episodes scattered throughout the season, “hoping she’d have so much fun she’d stay,” he says. “Thankfully, that’s what happened.”

“We were really going to be in trouble if we didn’t get her,” he says. “We would have had to completely rethink the character or gotten rid of it altogether.”

Leeves, for her part, had an important decision to make right off the bat. The producers weren’t set on which character they wanted her to play — soft-spoken novelist Melanie Moretti or cynic Joy Scroggs, eyebrow specialist to the stars.

Leeves, however, knew exactly which part she wanted. “I usually play the Melanie character, but I love Joy,” says Leeves. “She’s so complicated and she has so many issues — it’s a complete turnaround from playing Daphne [on ‘Frasier’] for all those years. Daphne was the glass-half-full girl, now I’m playing the glass-half-empty girl.”

Bertinelli ended up playing Melanie, which worked out well for the former child star. “She’s like a heightened version of me,” Bertinelli says. “She wrote this book about things to do before you die, and I have my own list,” which includes appearing on Broadway, climbing a mountain and going on an African safari.

Malick plays Victoria Chase, a former soap star. Milliner doesn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea. about the title of the show — “Hot in Cleveland” does not poke fun at the city that is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It celebrates it.

“Cleveland gets a bad rap,” says Milliner. “Chicago gets all the press as the cool place to go in the Midwest, but Cleveland has all of those of big-city amenities, but is somewhere you can get very comfortable very quickly.

“In the show, Cleveland is the location that allows these women to have this sort of renewal,” adds Milliner. “But you can have a renewal anywhere. This show isn’t about Los Angeles versus Cleveland, it’s about that stage in your life when you want to try something new.”

Throughout the course of the first season, viewers will see the women reinvent themselves, through dating and new careers. Even Elka gets in on the action — Carl Reiner is set to guest-star as a love interest.

“Hot in Cleveland” is a multicamera comedy, shot in front of a studio audience. Milliner and producing partner Sean Hayes (formerly of “Will & Grace”) had been looking for the right idea for a traditional comedy.

“You watch old episodes of ‘The Honeymooners’ and you hear the rolling laughter of the live audience and you feel like part of the group,” Milliner says. “It’s electric. I don’t think multicam shows were ever dead, I just think there’s been a lack of really great ones recently.”

But with a roster of actresses who were on some of the best (Bertinelli on “One Day at a Time” and Malick on “Just Shoot Me”), Milliner felt he couldn’t go wrong.

Bertinelli is confident viewers are going to love the show, and will want to come back week after week to see what happens with these women. She just wants to make sure you know where to tune in!

“Some people might not know what channel TV Land is on. I didn’t even know!” says Bertinelli. “But you can go to tvland.com and put in your zip code and it will let you know where to tune in. Spread the word!”

After seing Hot In Cleveland I think I like Jane's character Daphne a lot better. I'm so used to the Daphne accent. It's strange to hear Jane's real accent, lol.

The pilot episode of HIC was ok. Hopefully the next wepisode will be better.
