Actor Dave Prowse, who starred as Darth Vader in the original Star Wars films, is in remission from prostate cancer, he has confirmed.

The 74-year-old told The Daily Mirror he was given the all-clear last month after being diagnosed a year before.

Prowse said he had made a full recovery after intensive radiotherapy at a London hospital.

"I've won the fight and I'm feeling better than ever. Everyone was shocked by how well it all went," he said.

Prowse, who was also known as the Green Cross Code Man in the 1970s, only discovered he had cancer through his charity work when a Prostate Cancer Charity representative asked him if he had been tested.

When visiting his GP for another matter, he asked for a blood test and the results confirmed he had prostate cancer.

Now the actor is urging other men over 50 to get tested for the disease.

He said: "I've had people saying I've saved their lives. I got the same with the Green Cross Code, it's happening again."
