Default BREAKING NEWS: WE MIGHT NOT SEE NO MORE THE JEFFERSONS ON DVD

It doesn't look good today for fans still waiting for The Jeffersons & All In The Family to be completed on DVD.

Sony Pictures to lay-off 450 employees: Report
2 Feb 2010, 1459 hrs IST, PTI

NEW YORK: Sony Pictures Entertainment, a division of Sony Corp, is planning to lay-off about 450 employees, or about 6.5 per cent of its current
work force, in the next few weeks, says a media report.

Attributing to a memo by Sony Pictures co-chairmen Michael Lynton and Amy Pascal, The Wall Street Journal said, the company is planning to lay-off about 450 employees in the next few weeks.

The report said that the majority of the layoffs are expected to hit the studio's home-entertainment and formation-technology departments, but nearly all divisions are expected to feel an impact to some extent, which includes motion pictures, television production and corporate.

"Most of the layoffs are expected to fall in the US and take place by the first week in March," it added.

After the current round of job cut, studio's head count would stand at about 6,300. In addition, the studio would not fill about 100 jobs that are currently open.

The company's business has been hit by digital piracy and the impact of social-media services that have sometimes
undermined studios' marketing efforts.

DVD sales in the US has seen declined 13 per cent to $8.73 billion against last year, putting a major dent in the
studios' bottom-line, the report said attributing to Adams Media Research.

This really sucks! And I think not many fans bought The Jeffersons & All In The Family on DVD. It looks like more fans bought Bewitched & I Dream Of Jeannie on DVD and that is why those sets were completed, but with today's breaking news, I'm afraid now that we may never see the remaining seasons of The Jeffersons & All in The Family released on DVD.
This explains the sloppy production care on the recent seasons that were released and the cheap packaging!
Just another reminder that we are really living in a bad time!

I guess this scratches any chance we'll see the last season (S3) of "The Flying Nun" as well.

It's really not looking good at all for all the owned SONY shows that still need to be completed on DVD. And what makes you think that a company like Shout will take over when we are living in a recession? The whole reason for the layoff at SONY was because of poor DVD sales. Sure the die hard fans of these shows are buying these DVD's but that's just not enough for SONY or SHOUT to invest their time & money to produce & distribute thousands of new copies. We are also living in a world where no one is buying DVD's or CD's anymore! Just last year, we saw the closing of many well known chain-stores like Circuit City & The Virgin Mega-Store. As the time goes on, there will be physically no more DVD's available to actually buy & hold in your very own hands as we are seeing more & more downloads & the cable & satellite services have added so many more on demand features to order titles on your TV or cable box. Netflix is now available through your TV.

I know people stopped buying CD's but why DVD"S?

You can download TV shows now like you can music?

Why doesn't sony make the dvds to order then? Amazon does that with Nickelodeon shows. You just order the show and they put it on dvd with the inserts and packaging and everything else. That way they don't have to worry about losing money and producing too many.

People DO still buy both CDs & DVDs. The average consumer doesn't download shows or watch them online. If nobody was buying CDs or DVDs than none would be produced anymore. This obviously isn't the case. It is true that we have seen a slowdown of DVD purchasing, but that's also because we are in a recession. At this point, I think a lot of TV shows will end up with as MOD titles or online exclusive titles. Sony has been saying for years they were working on a MOD program but so far it hasn't happenned. Shout! already picked up Facts of Life from Sony and you can bet your bottom dollar more abandoned Sony titles will be announced by Shout! in the days to come. Perhaps All In The Family and The Jeffersons may be one of them someday if their exclusive titles do well for them.

Bravo for Shout picking up The Facts Of Life & other classic tv shows! Lets keep our fingers crossed and really hope that if SONY decides not to continue with The Jeffersons, that Shout picks it up real quick! The Hawaii storyline is my favorite episodes & those are in the next season that we have been waiting for on DVD!

Hello Jack, I don't know if you know anything about the Leave It To Beaver DVD trouble we have had for the past several years, but Universal started the first two seasons for us. The 1st came in 05 and the other took only six months later and arrived in May of 06. After season two we couldn't get a straight answer on weather or not we would get LITB in completion and then came specualtions and rumors...until FINALLY in January or early feb. we heard that LITB was bought by our friends at Shout who will release not only season 3, but the entire series on June 29th! Everyone kept saying they wouldn't do it because sales weren't up and so forth, but we have finally gotten our answer and we love it! So I wouldn't give up on the Jeffersons or AITF being completed just yet, hopefully it won't be the wait we had for LITB because I do have the first season of AITF and I want more and maybe some of the early seasons of the Jeffersons.

That depends..on the AGE of the average consumer. If we are taking about those over 30..then thats true as chances are they don't download shows or watch Hulu.

But for those under 30..then YES chances are quite good they DO download shows and/or watch them online. For proof all one has to do is visit a college campus and see how many TV sets are in dorms ( answer...not very many ) or read all of those "I don't watch TV" comments made by so many 20 somethings online on various websites.

Another example...movie actor Seth Rogen ( age 28 ) despite making millions from such films as Superbad and Observe & Report acording to an article I saw in Parade last year...the man does NOT own a TV set..Of course I am sure Seth Rogen ( and everyone else who claims "I don't watch TV " ) keeps up to date as to what happened on last week's Simpsons or Family Guy by watching/downloading these shows from the internet because they think its soooooooo cool.

If Shout continues the series, I would love for them to add the 4 episodes of "Checking In" as bonus features since this is the season where Florence left to work at the hotel.

Wow, I didn't know the Hawaii episodes are not on DVD!! The Jeffersons is the greatest sitcom EVER (although 3's Company is a close 2nd) and all 11 seasons should be on DVD no doubt!!

It's practically criminal that they are not!!

So is there any update here from ANY source who may put of the Jeffersons on DVD?

Anything from Shout?

It's a shame since the Jeffersons really is the greatest sitcom ever! I know my SN says 3sCompany and that's a close 2nd. 3's Company didn't develop characters as well as the Jeffersons and their plots were too simplistic compared to the Jeffersons.
