Meredith Baxter in 1978's Little Women - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Meredith, while still playing the role of Nancy Lawrence Maitland on the ABC drama Family, took on the role of Meg March in 1978's NBC miniseries Little Women. Because it was a TV miniseries and not a theatrical release, it was very faithful to Louisa May Alcott's novel. Of course, she was still Meredith Baxter-Birney back then. I think she looked great in the vintage dresses, looking like she really belonged in the Victorian era. Here are some pics:

So now we have a Partridge, a Brady, and a Keaton all playing sisters! They need to put this miniseries in the Smithsonian. It'a a historical document!!!

I just saw this miniseries a few weeks ago for the first time - which means it's the first project I've seen MB in since she came out. So it was kind of interesting watching her struggling whether or not to accept her smitten suitor's marriage proposal.

I wish Meredith the best with her current relationship.

Monika, I understand what you're saying, but at that time she was straight. I think that tv appearances, including movies and shows from before she came out should be viewed in the same way they were before anyone knew. I think it takes away from the performance if the person is viewed in a different light then they were intended to be. For example, there are three male actors on Frasier that are gay in real life. I didn't know that until after I had seen all the Frasier episodes. I think it would have been strange to know that ahead of time or learn during the run of the show. That show ended in 2004 and I started watching it in late 2008.

When watching something you want to be able to believe the character and that can be hard if you factor in the real life of the actor/actress into it.

Just my opinion.

Very true! I saw this movie for the first time JUST after she made her announcement, like within a couple of days. But you can't deny her beauty, especially here. She just looks so totally Victorian, like she stepped out of a portrait from that era.

Jenny, I think you would enjoy this movie. It's about 3 hrs long (on 2 discs) but it's well worth it. Meredith doesn't get nearly as much screen time as Susan Dey (who plays the lead character, Jo), but she is great in every scene she's in. Let me know if you ever check it out - I'd love to hear your thoughts!!
