Paul Rodgers Reportedly Asked to Join Aerosmith, Declines in Favor of Bad Co. Reunion
Link
Joe Perry reportedly asked Paul Rodgers if he would be interested in replacing Steven Tyler in Aerosmith. Classic Rock magazine's editor-in-chief Scott Rowley and writer Jerry Ewing were sitting at a table with the pair during November's Classic Rock Roll of Honor Awards in Britain. Mog.com posted that they heard Perry extend the frontman gig to Rodgers. According to Ewing, "Perry said he'd long admired Rodgers as a vocalist, and mentioned Aerosmith were having trouble with Steven's erratic behavior. Perry got straight to the point and asked Rodgers whether he'd be interested in singing for Aerosmith. . . "I think (Rodgers) was quite surprised by Perry's invitation, which came right out of the blue. He regained his composure and thanked Perry, but said he was committed to the reunion of Bad Company, so singing in Aerosmith wouldn't be possible." Paul Rodgers told us that his days of embarking on major tours spanning months -- if not years -- on end are a thing of the past. We asked him if he felt it was too big a strain on his voice -- or his spirit: "Y'know, that's a very good question. It's not really the strain on my voice, because actually, you get into a groove and you sort of get really, really strong -- because you have to, y'know, vocally. It is a strain on the spirit, actually. When I was in my teen years, and through my '20s and even '30s, it was okay to drop everything and disappear and become a road warrior for all those months, but after a while you get . . . y'know, one likes to have some home life." |
