And it's a shame that due to music rights issues this great series will likely never be seen on DVD.

Wow, isn't that the truth? Who'd have thought that by making it so good and so "real", we'd all be screwed (DVD-wise) because of not being able to secure the necessary music rights? I watched this show sporadically during it's original run, and enjoyed it very much. I had other things going on the nights that it aired, sometimes I'd tape it, sometimes I wouldn't. But I thought it was a great show. I've always tried to catch it in reruns, and it was nice to see it again on ION back in 2007... but it seemed like that ION run was over almost as soon as it started. I think ION aired back to back episodes every night, but I could be wrong... The situation re TWY is almost as bad as having TV series from the 50s & 60s being lost because they weren't preserved. It's hard to believe that so few stations will air reruns of this classic. I don't know how TWY originally did in the ratings, but it would be highly watched by fans today on any station that aired it, because of not having DVDs available. |
