The search continues for 'American Idol' contestant Angela Martin's mother, who mysteriously disappeared in a south Chicago suburb on Dec. 26. "We haven't heard anything yet," Martin tells PEOPLE.
"The detectives have been calling my sisters and myself, and just keeping us informed. They say they are still just looking and asking us more questions, if we know anything but her friends are calling us, so it's hard." As her quest to be the next American Idol continues, Martin isn't sure if the trip to Hollywood is such a blessing -- considering the three time ticket holder has been stuck with tragedy every time she's advanced in the competition. When Martin first auditioned in 2007 and made it to Hollywood, she learned that her father had been murdered; shortly thereafter, she was cut in the second round. In 2008, she auditioned again and advanced to the Top 50. But she had to leave the competition early to go to court to settle a traffic ticket. The tragedy involving her mother unfolded the day after a family Christmas dinner when her mother, Viola Brown Martin, failed to show up at her older sister's house. After the family filed a missing person's report, the Glenwood, Ill., police found Viola's car on New Year's Eve in an unfamiliar neighborhood. Investigators were "not 100 percent sure" that she did not go off on her own accord, reports RadarOnline. The police have since released a photo and Marin describes her mom as 5-ft. tall, about 165 lbs., light-skinned and with blond and brown hair. On January 19, America watched as Martin was sent through to Hollywood after her rendition of 'Just Fine 'by Mary J. Blige. "It's people like you, singers like you, which is why I like doing this show," Simon Cowell told her, as the judges unanimously passed her though. "You're really talented, you need a break, and you're just good." Martin recalled how excited her mother was for her. "She was there at my audition in Chicago. She was the one holding my daughter. It was a highlight for her because this was my third time and she was really happy to be a part of it," Martin recalled. While she is in Hollywood, her sisters and family continue the search in Chicago and also care for Angela's 10-year-old daughter, who has Rett Syndrome, a developmental disorder. http://tvwatch.people.com/2010/01/26...ther-vanishes/ |
