Could there really be a serial killer who targets real estate agents?

I would love to see the oustide world, but being paralyzed kind of puts a damper on that.

This forum kind of keeps my mind active and at least returns me to somewhat go back to my productive self.

To be honest, my interest in this show probably has kept me alive. Thank god for UM episodes.

I have been a little off puting in some of my threads lately. Just been a little too passionate and trying to relive being a "detective". If it's the concesus of the group that I should leave the forum, that is not a problem.

1. I was actiually playing devils advocate in this thread. I actually do not think the murders are connected (especially considering Brown;s death involved two individuals) It was actually brought up in a previous thread about a possible connection between Merrifield and Emert's deaths which do have some similarities.

2. Actually the thing that makes me bring up the connection is not just the fact that the cases where on UM or that they were both real estate agents. Its the fact that both crimes are apparently motiveless and where both done with a huge level of experience on the attackers. All three murders were all done in the best possible way to eliminate their targets.

3. While looking over the Zodiac Killer case and Jack the Ripper, a thought had occured to me. We always assume that prostitutes and cab drivers are the easiest targets for a serial killer. But if you really thing about it...a real estate person is a perfect category to stalk if you want to kill adult males. Much like prostitutes, real estate agents are always willing to go alone with someone.

4. I am almost positive that when the last case was given UM brought up the fact that they had done two previously murdered real estate people with motiveless murders. I really think that the concept of a connection WAS indeed looked at by the authorities of at least one of the murder cases. Most likely they dismissed any possible connection. Almost certainly the Merrifield case and Emert cases were looked at for connections.

If you think that real estate agents are common, then that would make the fact that those 3 cases are connected even less of a coincidence.

First off I want to say that I do think Mike Emert was killed by a serial killer. The other two looked like proffesional hits. Maybe Emert's death looks more like it could have a connection to Merrifield. But if you take Merrifield you have to throw out the window all you said about real estate agents. First off he wasn't a real estate agent but a lawyer. Second, because of this you don't have any of the work ways of a real estate agent. He wasn't alone in house but worked in an office. He had to be set up for a early meeting to be alone and was murdered in the office. So the only common denominator is that they worked with houses and unless the murderer has a grudge against houses I don't see the possibility they are related. I could agree about your theories on a real estate agent but I do think that it's a matter of looking from a smaller scope than it truly is.

1. Your assuming the killer knows or cares to differentiate between a real estate lawyer and a real estate agent. The killer may not be able to tell the difference nor really care that there is a difference. He just sees them both as working in real estate.

2. I don;t think that Mike Emert was a serial killing. Personally I believe it was done by a hitman as..... possibly as a "practice hit".

3. I think a question that has to be asked is what type of illegal activities lend themselves to the real estate business. "House flipping" by drug dealers?

Well but that is actually more for my point. Why would he go after them for the "real estate"? A personal vendetta against houses? Your argument of targetting real estate agents is that there work allows them to be alone in a house. And that is a good argument but I think it would be the only explanation. Merrifield being a lawyer doesn't fit that mold. He works in a totally different setting and thus the only thing they have in common is the real estate. And that I think makes for a weak connection between cases to make them related.
