Default Kathleen Turner Picked Up Too Much Weight

She used to be hot back in the day. Now she's fat. I saw a recent picture of her in a theater/plays magazine because she does Broadway plays now. She doesn't look good. Same thing goes for Kirstie Alley. I don't understand how women who used to be hot let themselves get so fat. R&B singer Chaka Khan is fat now too and she has been for awhile. It trips me out when i look at old Rufus and Chaka Khan album pictures that she used to be skinny and cute. I see black actress/comedian Monique has lost some weight and she looks good. She has a talk show that comes on late at night on BET.

I see by your profile that you are 33 and I'm assuming, male.

That gives you two major advantages. One, you are young enough not to experience "middle age shift" in weight and body distribution. You may even be fortunate enough not to have to watch what you eat or exercise in order to stay in slim shape. Not everyone is so fortunate.

Secondly, since you are a male, you are give more leeway in regards to your appearance. That is, it's more socially acceptable to be a man with a belly than it ever would be for a woman. Hollywood, and America in general, projects nearly impossible standards for women. If you don't fall within the Hollywood ideal range of weight (which by the way, is not in step with most people I know and what THEY perceive as being "too heavy") you are labelled "fat" and ridiculed. If you diet too much, though, people point and say "wow, is she anorexic?" It's almost impossible to win.

I think a wide variety of female sizes can be attractive. It's close minded to limit yourself to such a narrowly defined idea of beauty, because it doesn't sync up with human reality. Being thin doesn't always mean being healthy or feeling good. Maybe the actresses you adore for their appearance are torturing themselves in order to stay that way, physically and mentally. I would rather they relax and accept who they are; as long as it's not a dire health issue, who cares really?

As to the actresses you named, I haven't seen recent pics of any of them. You're right, they've all gained weight, but again, that's what happens when people age. It'll happen to you too. Better get ready.

P.S. Btw, I'm about 145 pounds, soaking wet.

You do make some good points. I eat a lot and i don't gain weight for some reason and i'm glad i'm still slim. I weigh about 160 pounds. I'm also not a healthy eater. It's hard for me not to eat fried foods and desserts. I eat fruit sometimes. My dad tells me i need to eat more vegetables but i don't. My dad gets on my mom often about her weight because she likes to eat fried foods and desserts but sometimes she'll eat vegetables and baked food. Blacks definitely have a terrible diet when it comes to eating healthy and that's why so many of them get diabetes. My grandfather was a diabetic before he died because he had to take insulin shots often and my aunt's husband is also a diabetic because he takes insulin shots but he drinks beer often and eats fried foods and that's not good.

It's very hard to eat healthily in this society. I try to, because I am single and don't want to end up with multiple health issues, trying to care for myself (well, I wouldn't want to if I was married, either, but when single you are particularly aware of things that will compromise your independence). But I am far from perfect. I love everything that is bad for you; pasta, potatoes, cheese, sugary treats like donuts and cookies, etc. I just try to moderate as much as I can.

People think that being thin means you don't have to worry about sugar or cholesterol levels. Wrong. You can be a skinny diabetic or heart attack victim, it's just that overweight people are most vulnerable and get the most press (and pressure).

I stopped drinking regular soda years ago, use low fat milk and butter, try to grill rather than fry meat, and moderate sweets. When I was young I didn't have to worry (or at least I think I didn't) but with age I think your body isn't as able to filter out those impurities. Your metabolism changes. (I'm 45).

Anyway, best of luck, to both of us!

No offense, but you seem to have a thing with women who are fat. I remember YEARS ago you used to make fun of Monique and other overweight actresses.

She's gained weight, so what?

isiah, it's comments like yours that lead to women having issues with their appeareance, wondering if they're also considered "too fat" and in some cases (such as mine) developing an eating disorder. Please think about that the next time you feel the need to call someone overweight.

Kathleen Turner had a serious case of rheumatoid arthritis that prevented her from engaging in much physical activity. The medications and alcohol she took to ease her pain also contributed to her weight gain. I read that her arthritis is in remission, but this may not be true. Regardless, I doubt she stays up at night crying into her pillow because certain guys don't think she's "hot" anymore.
