TV Annette O’Toole Returning to 'Smallville' as Martha Kent

Martha Kent is winging it back to Smallville, and word is it’s not to dispense motherly advice.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Annette O’Toole has inked a deal to reprise her role as Clark’s mom later this season.

Producers are still working out the exact timing of Martha’s reappearance, but a Smallville insider tells me it’ll most likely fall during May sweeps. That same source hints that the mother-son reunion will be rocked by an “unexpected surprise” or two.

O’Toole last appeared in season 6 when Martha moved to Washington to become a U.S. senator.

My brother-in-law is a huge Smallville fan - I'm sure he'll love this news.

They have also said Micheal McKean is going to reappear as Perry White and I believe meet Lois Lane. Now, this I am excited about and will probably actually watch. That being said, I used to love this show and then over the years have become a hater of it, I finally quite 2 years ago about. I'm sure you have all heard the reasons it has lost fans-taking too long to be Superman, losing good cast members, doing the same stuff over and over again, and all those reasons are indeed reasons I feel the show went from good to suck. But I have long felt that if they would actually just turn him into Superman now, and have Perry there and, even though they have screwed up the Jimmy thing for awhile clearly, then they could have a pretty good Lois and Clark redux. I am not sure why they can't just do that-I guess either Tom really doesn't want to put on the suit, or they feel like young girls won't watch if he's actually Superman. But either way I think it's their only chance to have quality again-otherwise I really wish they would turn him into Superman and yank the show, it is absolutely ridiculous.

The basic premise of the show in the first place was to show young Clark
Kent's formative years, before he became Superman. There was a
"no flights, no tights" policy that they adhered to for the first couple seasons.
But they got around the "no flights" part by showing Kal-El fly. The
absurdity came when Tom Welling turned 30 (a bit old to still be Superboy).
Actually, this season he is wearing a costume of sorts (similar to the black
costume he wore in the comics briefly). But all the action takes place in
Metropolis now, which even makes the show's title a misnomer. They're just
trying to get as much mileage out of the show as they can. Jobs are at stake, and
it's all about keeping the show on the air as long as possible.

I wonder if WB will give them a package deal as co stars. You know 2 for the price of one. Because Anette O Toole and Michael MKean are husband and wife
