Superfan Glyn Stott reckons he's the world's biggest lover of TV's The Simpsons - and he is going through pain to prove it. Glyn, 34, has spent more than £100,000 on The Simpsons in his adoration of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. And the bachelor is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the cartoon comedy by watching all 451 episodes back to back. Paramedics will be on standby as Glyn goes through more than 150 hours of sleep deprivation to watch every episode shown in Britain since January 1990. Glyn will end up in the Guinness Book of Records if he completes the TV marathon - which will take more than six days. And witnesses from the Guinness Book of Records will be there to make sure Glyn doesn't nod off. Glyn said: 'I'm a huge fan of the show and I've seen every episode but watching them continuously for almost a week will be a feat of endurance. 'The judges have to make sure my eyes are firmly fixed on the screen - I have to be seen to be concentrating all the way through.' The current record for non-stop TV watching is four days by an American fan. But Glyn believes his love of Homer's clan will help him smash it. His home in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, is a shrine to the American cartoon family. He has a room packed full of Simpsons gear including everything from cufflinks to lifesize models to a Simpsons doughnut maker. His original Simpsons toys are worth up to £1,500 each in mint condition in their boxes. And he is a mastermind on the Simpsons after first seeing the show when he was a 14-year-old schoolboy. Shop manager Glyn said: 'To start with I wasn't sure, I couldn't understand why the characters were yellow - it was all a bit strange. 'But I soon fell in love with the show and I watch it every day - sometimes twice. 'The Simpsons are a major part of my life and I've gort the T-shirt, the wristwatch, and the figurines to prove it. 'But my love of the show will be tested if I can stay awake for almost a week watching every episode and the feature film on top.' Glyn will get a 20-minute break at the end of every three episodes and he must stick to the strict rules laid down by Guinness. He said: 'If I have a meal during the world recorrd attempt I'm not allowed to look down at the plate - my eyes must be on the TV all the time. 'I will be allowed to use an exercise bike to keep my circulation going but even then I can't avert my eyes from the Simpson's.' Makers Fox are backing Glyn's world record attempt by sending him every episode on DVD. He said: 'I've got them all on video anyway but it will make it easier to watch them constantly. 'I will be watching 20 years of TV compressed into six-and-a-half days - it will be amazing to see how the show has changed over the years.' A spokesman for Fox said: 'Nearly a week without sleep watching TV - Homer would be proud of him!' |
