Executives at Disney and ABC are considering pulling The View out of ABC's daytime network lineup and repackaging it for syndication as a replacement for The Oprah Winfrey Show after it goes off the air in 2011, News Blues is reporting today. Another option being discussed by the executives is leaving the panel talk show for women on the network, but moving it to 4 p.m., Oprah's slot on the ABC O&Os and many other stations, or 3 p.m. in place of General Hospital, the pay website says. ABC's popular soap opera would move to another spot on the daytime schedule. |

I'm going to take a shot at this:
11 AM hour either reverts to affiliates or they stick a game show or two in there 1 PM: All My Children 2 PM: General Hospital 3 PM: The View. |

...because they returned that time period to their affiliates after "THE EDGE OF NIGHT" ended in December 1984...and they have NO intention of giving that up! No, that time of day belongs to either "OPRAH", or local newscasts...or whatever their local stations schedule at that hour.
Probably, "THE VIEW" will be placed in syndication....and possibly "GENERAL HOSPITAL" might replace "ONE LIFE TO LIVE" at 2pm, with the network giving back their 3-4pm time period to their affiliates as well {they're the last broadcast network to schedule "national programming" at that hour- unless you count the CW's "TYRA BANKS SHOW" at 3pm}.

All HORRIBLE ideas, I can't even imagine ABC network executives would consider touching the two most popular things they have in daytime.....is this a hoax considering what is going on with NBC...this would be a horrible programming move.....As for the constant rumors of One Life To Live or All My Children being cancelled, I guess I have to start buying into it, but they make so much money by being replayed on the ABC owned "SoapNet".
If anything, of one of the soaps gets canned, a daily replay of The View at night on SoapNet would be a good idea, I know this was tried several years ago I believe on A&E, but it quickly faded. Just let the affliates program 4PM with a syndicated newcomer, it is such a long way from now.......but to move "The View" or "General Hospital" BIG MISTAKE! |

I agree that moving GH to a later time slot will ruin the ratings for sure. I say ditch "The View" once and for all and leave the soaps as they are. |

A PERSONAL COMMENT RESPONSE OPINION: (which does not neccessarily reflect the opinions of any sitcoms-on-line moderators or administrators) We are all intitled to our "our opinions", which I respect, but as I said, especially with the current NBC situation, people obviously do want the same time slots, The Tonight Show at 12:05AM anyone???, The Today show also has been seen in its same time slot for 40+ years. The Simpsons 20+, 60 minutes 40+ and the granddaddy of them all Meet The Press, Sunday mornings.....I think your opinion is just based on your dislike of The View or daytime dramas..... let me tell you the facts....11am used to be reserved for the locals, meaning reruns of happy days used to air there in the 70's, when it turned to network time shows like Family Fued aired, when that ended, ABC had a terrible time finding a successful show to air at 11am, many failed game shows, anyone remember the home show?, or how about the attempt to revive "Love American Style" in the 11AM slot! Finally they hit paydirt with The View and it has only been on for 10 years or so...... now as for General Hospital it started in 1963 in black and white, then was expanded to 45 minutes and now an hour, it is ABC's most successful daytime drama and the marriage of Luke & Laura still holds a viewer ratings record....viewing patterns have changed and with the ABC owned SoapNet each daytime drama episode can be seen several times a day in many different timeslots.....real research has shown hardly anyone watches series as they air, with the advent of the DVR, most people timeshift their viewings, not to mention, all abc soaps are now available online.....translation...the premiere showing timeslot pretty much means nothing.... as for as shaking up their schedules, didn't NBC just do that with total distaster? Also as far as The View moving timeslots I believe there is talk because it was hinted at very briefly on the Monday, January 17, 2010 episode, it was a very inside mention to Barbara about moving shows around, Whoopi was obviously against it......but my main point is......The View is pretty much owned and created by Barbara Walters and her producer Bill Getty, they have clout at ABC, it is recorded live and fed at 11AM eastern in NYC......it is practicially a morning news/chat show.......to continue to do it live at lets say 3PM would be bearly impossible. To take it into syndication which Barbara's ego would never do....its a step down...anyway.....currently Joy Behar tapes her HLN nightly show at 5, making it impossible for her to do be available in late afternoons.....this is all speculation and rumor......but to say daytime hasn't gotten an overall since jimmy carter was president, well I will just say, get a TV guide from 1976 and look for "Donahue", "Not For Women Only", countless game shows, Letterman started in the mornings in the early 80's, countless off-network series like the above mentioned Happy Days, Sanford & Son, Diff'rent Strokes. As for ABC not changing their schedule since jimmy carter was president, back then at 2PM "The 20,000 Pyramid" was on followed by "Break The Bank" at 2:30PM..... my best to you and I respect your opinion but all of the above is factual. Lastly....for those in the ny metro and west coast areas when Oprah ends....why not just bring back The 3:30PM and 4:30PM movie?, so we can enjoy "Planet Of The Apes" and "Elvis" themed movie weeks again......lol.... |

Actually I could be opening up a big can of worms here and would much rather have people please read and discuss if you choose or care to my above post regarding the original topic of the current state of daytime television and its past, present and future which is what this thread started out to be. But this is the wonderfulness of life here on the boards where one thread can start with what hamburger do you enjoy and end with someones favorite "I Love Lucy" episode....lol |
