Movie Update on "Cloverfield 2"

J.J. Abrams Addresses Cloverfield 2
Source: MTV
January 15, 2010

You think J.J. Abrams will ever open up on his big projects? Of course not! Not unless it's The Dark Tower adaptation or any other project he's decided to depart.

Lost. Star Trek 2. Cloverfield 2. Ask him about any of these things, you're always going to get a coy answer.

Nevertheless, MTV offered him a query about the status of a Cloverfield sequel and here's what he said: "We're working on something right now with that and again, you know, it's early stages."

There you go.

Too much shakey camera work for me. All I care about now is another Star Trek movie.

I didn't mind the shaky-cam here since the movie was good.

MTV: Where are you and J.J. Abrams at with the "Cloverfield" sequel? Is it actually going to happen?

Reeves: It continues to percolate. There are ideas that come up and they go away and come back and, to be honest, I can't really tell you whether or not, or how exactly, it will happen, and, in fact, it may happen with me in a very differently capacity. I might not even direct it. It really just completely depends on how things come together.

I know that there definitely is an intention to do something, and we really want to do something great, and it just comes down to how things develop.

Obviously, J.J. is always busy with a million things, and he's got a personal project that he is really crazy about, in addition to a new TV show, and also he just came off of that little movie called "Star Trek," which was amazing.

And, actually, [writer] Drew [Goddard], he just did a movie, which is supposed to be just fantastic, "Cabin in the Woods." All of us would obviously want to find a way for him to work on the film. But everyone is doing stuff.

We definitely want to do something, and I know J.J. has some ideas for some things he wants to do too in terms of it, so we'll see how it develops.

I truly can't tell you anything beyond that, because it is literally constantly evolving, and it may come out in a form that is completely surprising and very, very different.

Brief Cloverfield Sequel Update
Sunday, March 14, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

We'll have some exact quotes for you later this evening, but some quick non-news from the SXSW Film Festival as David Harley texted in informing me that Matt Reeves (Let Me In) and the rest of the Cloverfield have been too busy on their own projects to get the sequel off the ground.

Speculation from all camps imply that it'll happen one of these days, just not anytime soon.

Although, I will never forget how quickly the first film ramped up and hit theaters.

Matt Reeves Talks Cloverfield 2
Source: Shock Till You Drop
January 26, 2011

As for the sequel to Cloverfield, it's all a matter of getting everyone on the same page.

"At the time, it was an idea that was fresh and exciting to make," says Reeves.

"I never shot a movie in that style before, but it was an incredible experience. We always thought there was more to explore, but we haven't had the time to get together to discuss it.

J.J. Abrams and Drew Goddard and myself need to get together and figure it out, then it will be the right time to do it.
"

With Abrams wrapping up work on Super 8 and possibly doing Star Trek 2 next, scheduling might be difficult.
