Sources close to former 'Tonight Show' host Jay Leno tell me he is furious with the way NBC has treated him and Conan O'Brien and is considering walking away from the entire mess with his head held high. "Now that Conan has made it clear he is leaving the troubled network, Jay is considering doing the same. They have put Jay in a terrible position. It looks like he is the reason that Conan is now without a job. Jay is a great guy and it's not fair that due to NBC's stupidity he looks like the bad guy," a TV insider tells me.
"Plus, what happens when Jay does return to the 11:35 slot if his audience doesn't immediately follow? How can he possibly trust the same network that canceled Conan after only seven months?" Check out the ethos on Jay! Good for him for sticking up for the guy he essentially got shoved out. And remember, if this mess continues and Jerry Seinfeld winds up on NBC yo heard it here first... http://www.popeater.com/2010/01/13/j...o-leaving-nbc/ |

Watch Conan go to FOX and then Leno go over there. And once again Conan is following Leno, lol.
It would serve NBC right though if Leno walked as well. |

I actually would love to see it. NBC deserves it.

If NBC wasn't in trouble before, they sure are now!! And WHY is Jeff Zucker still employed by NBC?

I just watched Conan's monologue. He was great. He went after NBC real good. It's like he and Jay don't care anymore how much they slam NBC.

...because while the network is showing that, their affiliates are scheduling their own programming [syndicated talk shows, game shows, old movies, reruns of prime-time shows they have multi-year contracts to play...and perhaps local station talent fronting their own talk show]. They're not going to wait while the network makes up its mind as to how to fill those blocks of time; they're in the business of making money.
This is what the majority of NBC affiliates did when "TONIGHT! AMERICA AFTER DARK" appeared between January and July 1957 (mostly libraries of old movies); the successor to "THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING STEVE ALLEN", "AMERICA AFTER DARK" was a late-night variation of "THE TODAY SHOW"...and it wasn't that good. In fact, Mike Wallace's "NIGHTBEAT" (hard-nosed interviews and news features) on New York's WABD {Channel 5} got better ratings locally. So NBC had to do something, or watch its late-night franchise disappear. That's when they got Jack Paar to host another version of "THE TONIGHT SHOW" in July of '57. He literally saved NBC from late-night oblivion.... ...and returning Jay to 11:35 might not be such a good idea now. Viewers may see him as "damaged goods" after all this current ruckus....
