Eek Lane Kiffin leaving Tennessee for USC causes chaos ... what the hey?

I cannot for the life of me understand why VolunteerNation has erupted into rioting in response to first-year head football coach Lane Kiffin leaving Tennessee to replace Pete Carroll at USC. At least that's what I was hearing on FOX Sports Radio Tuesday night.

No offense to any Tennessee fans on this board, but that is NOTHING compared to what University of Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly (in about his THIRD, not first, year at the helm) did by making himself available for the Notre Dame job in early December right before his undefeated Bearcats were to go to the Sugar Bowl--no wonder they not only lost big to Florida, but they also (1) lost their undefeated record and (2) were leapfrogged by Ohio State as king of Ohio. (Polls have OSU ranked #5 and UC #8 or #9, depending on which one you look at.) I remember some ads on the radio bragging that UC was undefeated and OSU had two losses under their belts at one point!

Because college football fans in Tennessee don't really care much about stuff going on in Ohio, while college football fans in Ohio don't really care much about stuff going on in Tennessee.

Meanwhile, in Kentucky I'm getting a kick out of all of this.

Seriously, though: I really do feel for Cincy as he was building a great program, but if Notre Dame is his dream job as he's claimed then he's best to pursue it...and I really do want to see Notre Dame be successful myself. Also, consider how Central Michigan feels in all of this. Personally, I'd like to see Cincy be successful since if I have to hear about Ohio State one more time I'm going to be sick.

Kiffin on the other hand is a scoundrel and several other words I won't use on this board, and USC deserves the nightmare they're about to receive. Good riddance, glad to have that guy out of the SEC.

Lightbulb

The thing is, Brian Kelly was at UC longer than Lane Kiffin at UT. I didn't think Mr. Kiffin would be the Volunteers' coach permanently and was not the least bit surprised at his departure. On the other hand, I saw Mr. Kelly staying at UC until he hit retirement age, turning UC into "the next Notre Dame" by having a few more undefeated seasons, chasing Eddie Robinson's record of 420 wins, and keeping OSU football on the back burner in Ohio, all the while giving the BCS people major headaches!

You couldn't have said it any better, Seth.

Seth are you telling me you wouldn'rt leave your current job if you were able to get another job without interviewing for it? You would turn down a better opportunity if offered to you?
