Marc Webb To Direct "Spider-Man" Reboot
EXCLUSIVE: SPIDER-MAN 4 SCRAPPED; SAM RAIMI & TOBEY MAGUIRE & CAST OUT; FRANCHISE REBOOT FOR 2012
By Mike Fleming | Monday January 11, 2010 BREAKING NEWS! UPDATE: Mike Fleming and I have just confirmed that Sony Pictures decided today to reboot the Spider-Man franchise after franchise director Sam Raimi pulled out of Spider-Man 4 because he felt he couldn't make its summer release date and keep the film's creative integrity. This means that Raimi and the cast including star Tobey Maguire are out. There will be no Spider-Man 4. Instead, Mike Fleming is told, the studio will focus on a Summer 2012 reboot from a script by Jamie Vanderbilt with a new director and a new cast. All this took place today at meeting on the lot today. An official Sony Pictures news release about it is below: Quote:

Interesting, considering everyone was on board.

My own view on it is that I don't think Tobey really wanted to do it. I think he was getting tired of Spidey and wanted to move on. I may be wrong but that is the vibe I got during the news on Part 4. I do wonder if that Venom spin-off is still on? Back in October there was word that a director was attached and a script was being written but I don't know if this changes anything. |

Eh, it might work (a reboot that is).
But I really got attached to Maguire as Peter and thought that Raimi totally captured the feel and look and theme of the comic. The new crew will really be under some pressure to duplicate all of that, and at this stage I'm not sure I'm up for it. I know since there is still cash in that cow to be milked, they won't let it die, but it honestly might be best if they did at this point. |

I don't see a reboot going over well. IMO Tobey IS the quintessential Spider Man and I'm sure many others feel the same way.
Why not just hire a new director? |

Sony confirms Marc Webb to direct the new Spider-Man
by Nicole Sperling Jan 19. 2010 It’s official. (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb just landed the Spider-Man gig. He’s been a favorite of Sony for some time and most recently auditioned for the Moneyball gig that ultimately went to Bennett Miller. It will be interesting to see what Webb, who comes from the world of music videos, does with the revamped Spider-Man. And more importantly, who will he and Sony cast as the new Peter Parker? http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/...ew-spider-man/ |
