Default CBS Studio Center lot

Just some trivia for everyone. I live in Studio City, California, next to the CBS Studio Center lot where "Gilligan's Island" was filmed. The lagoon where the show's exteriors were filmed was demolished not all that long ago to make room for a big building that housed the Big Brother stage. There is a plaque here in Studio City that states the show was filmed at the CBS Studio Center lot. I will remember to take a picture of it and upload here for everyone to see.

Incidentally, the same stage where the show was filmed is now home to "CSI:NY".

Yay, I love CBS Radford! I worked there for a bit and it's the cutest studio lot ever, haha. I used to ride around in the golf cart and lament the loss of th lagoon. I had to explain GI to some execs' daughters over the summer - poor things had no idea, haha.

I always thought the lagonn was in that little valley where there's a bunch of bungalows now? But was it over at Big Brother? Interesting.

Also, GI's stage, Stage 2, was "That 70's Show" before "CSI: NY" moved in.

OMG! I have to get that pic!

Stage 2 was also home to "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"

Yes it's true, the Big Brother house now sits in the same area where the actual Gilligan's Island sound stage & famous lagoon once were! I have some great video footage we shot with the Professor Russell Johnson right before the lagoon was destroyed in the late 90's. We came back and he stood there talking about all the wonderful memories filming at the lagoon. At the time, there was no more water anymore in the lagoon & Russ walked straight into it to take one last look around! Stage 2 was only a few feet away from the lagoon & it was easy for the cast to just leave the building to walk down to the lagoon & shoot their scenes. Unlike the casts from Bewitched & I Dream Of Jeannie who would have to film all their interiors at Sunset Gower in Hollywood & then travel all the way to Burbank to film their exteriors at the Warner Ranch where the front of the homes are located & are still standing today. I have visited there a couple of times, but sadly it's not open to the public!

Back to Stage 2, it was also home to Roseanne and that's why a Gilligan's Island spoof episode was produced. Roseanne is a huge Gilligan's Island fan! I have some great behind the scenes footage that I shot with my camera of when this episode was being filmed. At the time, Roseanne was on her rag though because she was pregnant & made Tina Louise look like an angel on the island. No pun intended!

Jack77:

As of 2005 when I worked there, the Big Brother house was on the complete opposite side of the lot than Stage 2. So unless they moved the BB house after the first season or so...

Stage 2 is next to the parking garage, basically right on Radford Ave. The BB house is over on the other side next to Colfax Ave. Do you know if they moved the house?

There's a little valley that houses production bungalows now (and is unusually green and lush - with trees! - for a backlot, haha) right across from Stage 2 that I was always told used to be the lagoon. "Gilligan's Island Road" is also right near those bungalows, which would make sense. I spent a while working at Studio Center and that's what I've always been told. Shrug.

Default Gilligan's Island lagoon set (historical site) (Los Angeles, California)

According to

This is the studio lot for the lagoon now? Too bad they didn't save it.

Interesting! Cool to see diagrams from back in the day. It's changed quite a bit even from when I worked there in 2005. They've paved more of an area between bungalows 18/19/20 where the lagoon was - it was more lush and "lagoon like" when I was running errands there.

Great Post. Thanks. Sad, though

Thanks for the pic and diagram antman. Was really nice to see how it was laid out. I was 4 years old when GI aired it's first episode. But I didn't actually start watching it till I was 8, and by that time, it was in syndication. But I fell in love with the show right away. Another great show that ran only 3 seasons was Greatest American Hero which I fell in love with too. Why do the great ones only have a short career?
