Holding out hope for a Sheldon-Penny romance on The Big Bang Theory? It might be time to throw in the towel. Speaking to reporters at press tour this morning, exec producer Chuck Lorre pretty much shot down any chance there was of the polar opposites hooking up.

“Part of [what's so great about] Sheldon is he has chosen not to play in the relationship game either way — heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual,” Lorre said. “He’s like, ‘I’m a scientist and all I’m interested in is science.’”

Added fellow e.p. Bill Prady: “[Sheldon] has made this choice that work and all of that is where he finds his passion.”

Lorre acknowledged that Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco have “become a natural comic pairing because [Penny] can tell him the truth. She’s not intimidated by him. They bounce off each other beautifully.”

Lorre also admitted that the Penny character was “underserved” in the Big Bang pilot, a problem he quickly set out to rectify. “It was [a priority] to develop that character and find more depth.”

Thank goodness, that would be enough to make me stop watching. They're great when they snark at each other a romance between the two would make the show jump the shark.

I am a Sheldon/Penny shipper and I admit there was a time I wanted them together on the show but thinking about it, it would ruin the everything that made the show a hit. Plus given the history between Leonard/Penny if Sheldon got with her it would ruin the friendship between him and Leonard and then Howard and Raj being Leonard's friends first they would dump Sheldon as well and he would be alone and thus, there would be no show. So while it is a lovely thing to dream about, Sheldon/Penny it is one of those couples that is meant to be a fantasy which is fine by me. I love them as a fan-fiction couple but to see them as an actual couple on the show would be weird and plus they would fighting worse than Leonard and Penny did in third season when they were dating. Plus Sheldon is too arrogant and condescending, and Penny would quickly grow tired of his attitude and comments about her intelligence and they would break up anyway. They have a great chemistry as friends but as a couple it just wouldn't work. Simple as that.

anyone that thinks that there would even be an infinitesimal possibility of a romantic relationship between Sheldon and Penny clearly has no understanding of the nuances of each character and that such a union would defy the laws of physics and break the space-time continuum, rendering our entire universe completely untenable.
